Build a PC
You have more backwards compatibility and it'll still be receiving support years down the line after the PS4/Switch get replacements. Most 3rd party games are multiplats these days anyways, and you have more control over how the game looks and runs on PC.
Don't buy a PC though. Build one.

PC is best. What other platform lets you make games and do word processing, spreadsheets, and almost everything else on?
In all seriousness, the Jaguar had (and the community still does have) a lot of heart behind it. Even if most of the game library was mediocre at best, and awful at worst.
PC is for porn, not games.

I'm lazier now, so I generally start out with a "bare bones" system, i.e. case, power supply, motherboard, memory and CPU at least booted up once at the vendor's, so you know you aren't facing basic compatibility issues at the outset. Then just add stuff until you have a real system.
Or just migrate shit over from your prior computer. You end up with a genuine Ship of Theseus at some point this way.
Oh also, do not cheap out on the power supply and do some research on it. You will fucking regret it if you get some cheap ass shit box power supply because it was $5 less.

The consoles are about as high now as putting together a decent PC. If you aren't going to do both, go with the PC.
