Well thank god it wasn't because of muh racism

kinda stinks its going away from broadcast television, but hopefully this means the specials won't have to be cut down to make way for commercials

You kid, but people were up in arms about the Thanksgiving special. Charles Schulz was trying to be inclusive before his time with the introduction of Franklin, but he sat across from all the other kids in a lawn chair at the Thanksgiving table, therefore it's RACIST. Yep, there's articles out there about it if you want to know more.

Boy, sure can't wait to see which Media Corporation buys up Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, Santa Claus is Comin' to Town, The Year Without a Santa Clause, and tries to repackage them into one, elite little 'holiday-streaming' bundle.

I know it's been asked to death before, but is this really the end product of a free and innovative market? Taking old shit, chopping off its limbs, and fitting it into neat little packages to sell you access to for $5 a month? This feels like a step backwards for the future of entertainment. At this point I might start buying physical media, just to authenticate/justify my decision to pirate.

When calling up my parents this morning I tell them this won't be on tv anymore and I get the reply of, "Oh well! it'll be on youtube!" ....So who's gonna tell them? Best case scenario it's on amazon for my family to consoom this year.

I mean I haven't watched them on TV in decades.

When I watch them, I either pop in a DVD or check the good ol' internet.

Don't call it a grave. It's the future you chose.

Streaming is primarily a method for media companies to control the distribution of entertaiment works. Specifically, removing works that are no longer profitable/reduce profits from new works, and altering works to suit modern politics/economic agendas. It's just another step in a long line of people choosing comfort over control of what they own.

It will be eventually. Once upon a time, paid cable channels didn‘t run ads because you were already paying the cable subsidies. Right now streaming services only put ads before shows, but that won’t last forever.

So was cable. Remember when you could watch Iron Chef on Food Network and Disney movies on the Disney Channel? Before those got replaced with cheaper, easier to produce shows, and you had to buy EXTENDED cable to get the channels with Iron Chef and Disney movies. And then THOSE moved to premium channels and regular cable was nothing but ads for better cable channels?

But on the flip side, where exactly am I going to put everything? Most people don’t have the space or money to buy and keep copies of every movie and book and CD they’d ever want to watch or read or listen to. Rather than complaining about “sacrificing control for comfort”, how about directing the anger where it belongs, our bullshit copyright system?

I'm not bugged about them yoinking the specials from TV as much as I'm dreading the new woke specials they're going to make with the Peanuts license. Tune in next year to watch:

"She's Got a Penis, Charlie Brown!"
"Marcie and Peppermint Patty's Wedding."
"Happy Eid al-Adha, Charlie Brown!"
"Black Lives Matter, Charlie Brown!"
"Yes, you ARE a Racist, Charlie Brown!"

I fucking hate streaming media.

Just when I thought it couldn't get any worse, it does. I probably should finally get with the times and learn how to properly traverse the high seas.
Remember about 5+ years ago when the big trend was "cord-cutting" and TV was going the way of the dodo?
And now streaming has become TV in all but name.
Might as well have a master app called "cable" where you can watch anything you want...For a price.
Time is a flat circle and there is nothing new under the sun my friends.

Sad to think that one day kids won't be able to watch Charlie Brown go Trick or Treating and come home with a pile of rocks unless they pay for it.

It's a step backwards for old media as opposed to home video, but while everyone likes to shit on streaming (and rightfully so in most cases) I do think there are some benefits to it.

Namely for certain new releases because it's a better middle ground than theatrical release vs straight to video, straight to video had a real stigma to it and the vast majority of straight to video movies were shit, but a straight to streaming movie can be basically theatrical quality, but a little more creative than what would get a theatrical release today.

So I'm not entirely opposed to streaming as a concept, but it's pretty fucked up at the moment with the sheer number of different streaming services, not to mention 1984 style memoryholing and censorship.
