I understand someone being anti-death penalty across the board, in terms of that being a logically valid position to hold. But that still leaves pedos in prison forever--because it is an egregious crime against society.

I think it's consumer capitalism in action, TBH. The idea of having a close group of friends and family that you can discuss problems with, or a priest, isn't great because many people don't want the give-and-take part where they have to listen to other people's problems and consider them as well. Money fixes any potential inequities and turns advice and mental work into a purchased commodity. And unlike your family and priest, if you think you're getting shitty advice, you can fire your therapist and hire a new one.

What a humanitarian. What about an active spree shooting scenario? Should the cops be forced to deal with an armed and dangerous spree killer without arming themselves because doing so would put the active shooter at risk of getting killed?

I used to think like you literally minutes ago, I thought non-offending pedophiles deserved a chance to try and treat their paraphilia, but the kiwis are right, IMHO. Considering there isn't an effective therapy and the fact that, pedophiles and rapers tend to relapse very often, its just better to outright kill them, like dude, you have NO IDEA of the harm they can do to someone, and they still have the gall to cry and plead for mercy when they get caught.
