Bullshit. Waffles Inc in Beaver makes a mean chicken and waffles. Nola on the Square made a great chicken and waffles as well. And any fried chicken joint in Sliberty (or the Rocks) is SURE to have it. Even though they've been gentrified to hell and back. (Thanks, Google. For turning an affordable neighborhood into a place where the apartments are thrice the price of Shadyside.)

Anyhoo, funnel cakes are PA born and raised. And I miss Jelly and Butterscotch Krimpets. Had an old man from out east bring me a pound of scrapple last time he visited home. I miss scrapple the most.

E- Well, that's a major TMI from me. I cant help it when it's food, though.
Fuckin yinzers!

Are any of those East Liberty chicken joints worth a shit? Why make an extra stop when you can get an 8 piece at giant iggle

The Coop Chicken and Waffles apparently upgraded from food truck and now has a permanent location. But it's on E Ohio in the North Side. Haven't lived near East Liberty in years. Quik-It Chicken is novel because it's attatched to a hair shop, lol. That's also on the North Side. Buying Giant Iggle chicken is weak. Jag.

I'm familiar with Central PA since I used to drive through the area frequently for one of my old jobs. I really liked Wawa and Sheetz: are they still a thing?
Hell yeah Sheetz is a thing. Sheetz where I live is like Starbucks in Seattle. I'm surprised I haven't seen a Sheetz across the street from a Sheetz.

Anyway, my vote goes for pierogies, shoo fly pie, and Lebanon bologna.

Ah man.. this thread is bringing back some memories. I used to date a guy who was from the Lancaster area and he introduced me to a lot of the food mentioned here. When we were there to visit his family we would go to the Tastykake company store and load up on goodies to take home. Also went to the Shady Maple Smorgasbord and Rita’s Italian Ice stand during our trips. And he was always hassling me to try scrapple but I was never brave enough.

I've heard good things about Bird on the Run, but never been myself. It's next to all the yuppie-ass hypergentrified luxury apartments, so I'm sure the prices are up there -- but I'm hearing from homeboys that the stuff's good.

I had some fried mush for breakfast. With local eggs. I think that's as PA as it gets.

(mush is pretty much polenta)

Shady Maple is great, would love that post camping trips and next to the resturant, the food store is amazing, and cheap. They have all your basic super market stuff but tons of PA Dutch stuff and outside a flower/seasonal shop, where I live in yuppie burbs you want a little ass pumpkin? 10 bucks because, they can. Out there roll a 20lber for like 7.

The store at shady maple has an entire local jerky fridge, if you can picture those fridge racks where meats are kept yes ALL jerky, I highly suggest the sweet and sour, I've had them all but that one is delish.

We have Herseys, Snyders, Herrs and unique aside Utz, we love our snack foods here. Unique extra dark pretzels are something I would kill someone for, probably someone I really liked too.

A warning to anyone coming to visit, our booze laws are the big gay. Seriously. It's got to do with a flood 100 years ago caused by the Industry Giants of the steel era, and they threw the bill to the tax payers. Then they kinda never stopped taxing the living fuck out of us for booze.

Hey @deermeat, here's a new video I just found which you may be interested in, since it involves lost media from Central Pennsylvania in the 1990s (I don't know if you were alive back then or not). I saw some lost media YouTube channels mentioning this search a while back (like Blameitonjorge), since I'm familiar with the Baron Von Brunk guy who made the video:

Essentially, there used to be some bizarre, poorly made Subway sandwiches commercial aired exclusively in Pennsylvania, and after a long time of searching for it, someone found it on a VHS tape of '90s commercials from Harrisburg, PA. The guy who made the documentary originally reenacted it accurately with LEGOs, and he compares it to the real commercial.

Pretty weird.

Edit: The Baron is from Lancaster, too, apparently, hahaha.
