People Faking Their Own Deaths - "Faking your suicide is a terrible thing to do. Get out."

I wanna know if this has happened elsewhere, but I've seen this happen before, on a very small community, named Kuribo64.net. The community itself is really good, it's centered around hacking of Mario games, and it has loads of people who add to the discussion, and really talented people who know what they're talking about, and they have a great admin too. Among all of this however, there was one incident here that stuck out really clearly to me, and thats when Squid Empress faked her own suicide.

Squid Empress was supposedly a transgender girl, she hung around on Kafuka.org, and Kuribo64.net, and according to the admin, she was suffering from depression and suicidal thoughts, and they tried to help her to no avail. On July 28th 2015, she reportedly killed herself. Then on August 13th, 2015, the admin made this post. Apparently she was still lurking both forums after her death. Her subtitle was then changed to "Faking your suicide is a terrible thing to do. Get out.", with it doubling as a hyperlink to the thread above.

I don't get it, why would someone do this? I get that some people are just looking for attention, but when you get to the point of faking your suicide, would you not realise that something is up? Also, when you do that, people are going to forget about you eventually, so it's not even a good way to get attention. I've seen people die on other forums, and people will be sad, maybe they'll change their signature to a memorial for them, but thats it, people move on with their lives. What drives someone to do this?

Mental illness if it isn't a legit attempt to run from something. They want to see how sad everyone is and how much everyone misses them. It's easy with online communities because you can reenter under a new identity easily if nobody is looking, and with little effort if someone is. What if that tranny had gotten a vpn,re-reg'd, and changed up their posting style? Nobody would have known it was them.

This used to happen every week on one edgy forum I was on years ago. My favorite were the “my daughter/son committed suicide and I needed to tell you all” posts that would relay the info. It would be about 15 pages of young teens being sad before people will step in and shut it down.

I don’t personally understand it but they do get some sort of attention high out of being “remembered” and getting sympathy. It’s like munchies but people who don’t have anyone who cares about them IRL.

Own deaths? Fairly rare compared to people claiming their own friends or relatives were dead for pity points. It's hard to garner sympathy and pats on the head if you yourself are dead. Go anywhere with a bunch of tween fucks with daddy issues and they will do anything like this to get you to notice them as the real world is coming towards them like a train.

A member of a band I loved for a long time is said to have faked his death. He actually managed to be declared dead about twelve years later, even with no body.
Before you could track all sorts of things, facial recognition, whatever, he left his car at a suicide spot and never looked back. He'd been obsessed with the perfect disappearance for years, but people assumed his anorexia got the better of him and he threw himself off the bridge, although there's quite a lot of evidence he is in fact still with us, and it is somewhat of an open secret that he went to live in a Kibbutz in the mid nineties and never looked back.

I've known it to happen in other forums. I think it would be deceptively common in places where there are pseudonyms, teenagers, or both. Intense little cults of fandoms and forums especially seem to breed exactly this sort of nonsense.

As to why, it's basic attention really, as is all the mental illness posturing that usually comes before a pseuicide. There's a thought process that kids often have if they're having a hard time, where they think, 'I'll be dead and then you'll all be sorry,' as well as wanting to see everyone wailing and confessing how much they were loved and how sad and guilty people were at their passing. Technology just allows people with the emotional level of children to indulge their attention-seeking, self-validating impulses.

It's like how much easier Munchausens and Munchausens-by-Proxy have become with the internet. And I think a lot of the same impulses apply.

I vaguely remember one guy who was making a fan recreation of zelda ocarina of time in 2d, faked his death to get out of it because if he just quit like a normal person the community would never forgive him or some shit. I'm a bit fuzzy on the details but that guy was a real fag, I think he called himself dampe or something.
