Now this is one of those blogs where I read it and think, haven't these people got anything better to do? Isn't there a real social justice issue they can be getting on with, like the housing crisis and the fact that homelessness is on the rise, the fact that in many countries being gay is punishable by death, enormous wealth and income inequalities, an increasingly insurmountable gap between the "haves" and "have nots," the disturbing militarization of police forces, female genital mutilation, and so on?

No, the most pressing social justice issue, the numero uno cause of all oppression and injustice everywhere ever, is that FUCKING CHILDREN'S CARTOONS don't show enough enby autochorissexual demiboyx getting together. Or a character has the wrong hairdo. Or stuff like that.

I suspect I know the answer though. It's because solving actual social justice issues requires effort and getting off your arse and taking positive actions, while bellyaching about kids' cartoons on Tumblr is zero effort and gives the instant gratification of having Done the Right Thing.

Part of it goes back to what @Ginger Piglet said, in that complaining about this kind of thing takes the least amount of effort; whether that's because these kids don't have the 'means' to do something actually productive via not having money/a job/resources, or they're just lazy (more likely the latter).

The other part is because so many of them are literal high schoolers and emotionally stunted man/womanchildren, they're desperate to be seen as popular. If they genuinely like this thing, it will make them 'uncool' because that thing is 'problematic' in regards to nonsensical social issues. They'll be a social pariah among their cult. So they'll thinly veil their like of the thing by constantly criticizing it.

It's kind of like hipsters, or the bronies: "I'm only participating in this thing out of hate/to make fun of it/ironically." And we've all seen how that REALLY ends up going.

Yeah, that's the grand majority of the SU spergs though. They hated the show because of the boy being the actual main character, the way it looked when it was still low budget, and claims of racism and cultural appropriation with the character designs, especially when fusion started happening.

But once Ruby and Sapphire canonly happened--"BEST SHOW EVAH. We mus protect this from... THE CISSIES!"

And over analysis up the ass and out the mouth. As much as I like deeply analyzing fictional worlds of things I like, spergs like this should probably be using all that energy for something a bit more constructive.
