Peter Molyneux's Theme Park games are underrated. -

If you guys know Peter Molyneux (of Godus and Project Milo fame) then you probably know about his classic game "Theme Park" released in 1994 by EA and Bullfrog Productions. This game and its sequels were popular back in the 90s and 2000s but later on where forgotten. I believe that EA should release a new Theme Park title some day (If they still own it)

What are your thoughts on the Theme Park games?

Molyneux was on a roll for a while, populous was amazing in its own time and invented the whole genre of god games and were a precursor to real time strategy. Syndicate, the theme hospital type games....the games are not underrated; they're well appreciated classics. Though like the original prince of persia, they didn't age too well. They're still okay, but part of what made them good is that they were ahead of their time, not that they were in themselves very good games.

If you don't have nostalgia for them they are not worth picking up, unlike some other games, so perhaps cult classic is a better name than classic.

I agree, too many theme park games focus too much on the sandbox element and not the business aspect.

Not sure about making another since the last few weren’t great (Theme Park World/ Theme Park INC), Rollercoaster Tycoon 1/2 and Parkitect are better.

Goddamn, that's a blast from the past. I loved that game. Pretty sure I even still have my copy. I loved tweaking the costs like an autist. Even aside from the gameplay, it had a boatload of charm.

That's why I didn't play too much of the sequel. Roller Coaster Tycoon was already out and Zoo Tycoon came out not long after. There were better options.

I played the 3D Theme Park as a kid and would laugh my ass off at all the maniacal ways I could fuck with my customers like building no bathrooms or hiring no janitors and cranking every ride speed up to the maximum so the pathways would be covered in puddles of puke.

Or doing the opposite and building an entire theme park that's nothing but a bathroom and charging as much money as I could for tickets and laughing as guests would enter, act confused and then just leave after spending like a thousand dollars.

I also had no idea what I was doing and even when I would try to play it straight it was only a matter of time until every single theme park I built would eventually go bankrupt forcing me to start over.

My first thought when I saw the name Peter Molyneux was "has Larry Bundy Jr made another video?". I'm an even bigger autist than I thought.

As for Theme Park? Brilliant game. I played the shit out of that on my Amiga back in the day. 'Twas a solid business sim hiding behind a fun (and occasionally humourous) empire-building game.

I take your Theme Park games and raise you the Black & White games, which are arguably more underrated.

Yeah they're buggy, but goddamn the nostalgia just washes over me every damn time.

Theme Park's games were still good though. Never could figure out what the little helper dude was meant to be however...

Played it on the PS1 when I was a wee shit. Now I need to go and dig it up because I remember Sim Theme Park being genuinely fun, especially when you unlocked the camera mode that allowed you to walk among your guests.

One of the best things was the micromanaging of shops, from high salt content in fries/chips making customers thirsty and want to buy drinks kind of thing to being able to in game stalls control the exact percentage chance of winning and prize value so you could either have a prize that’s worth less than the ticket price that customers have a high (Or guaranteed) chance of winning or a really expensive prize that’s hard to win or something in between.

Theme hospital was more fun IMO,although slightly less freeform in its gameplay,either way Molyneux went off the deep end when he released black and white,from then on he was a snake oil salesmen

Maybe Theme Park is underrated, but it still got dunked on by RollerCoaster Tycoon 2.

Also Molyneux's best game is Dungeon Keeper, fight me IRL.
