Disaster PG&E has begun cutting power across parts of Northern California. Nearly 800,000 customers will be affected -

The power outages aren’t expected to hit the wealthy suburbs of Silicon Valley (near the bay), so this mostly affects California’s forgotten red voters while Newsom heroically replies to Trump tweets and signs rent control bills.
So as usual, socialism defends its elite class while talking about how much the worker must sacrifice for the good of the collective. Wake me when the forced sterilizations start "for the good of the planet".

they are bankrupt since last year or early this year.

im fine with this, less twitter spergs for a couple of days. maybe this could be a permanent solution for all of CA...
I'd be interested to see the downwards trend of certain topics sans CA NPCs screaming about it online. Kind of like the PoPuLaR VoTe thing you know?

I'm not religious, but I do think that if God hates California, he's certainly doing his best to let everyone know about it.
There's certain areas of the planet you're just not supposed to be living in. California has been screaming "get the fuck out of here" for years, these people stay and then we wonder why California is full of fucking idiots. These people are living in half built houses because they keep building them in spots that burn every year and we're surprised it's a third world country?

The USA would be very different sans California and Florida...
California Man is the new Florida Man, trust me and get in on the ground floor on this one.

This is precisely the reason why I have an unmarked, plain white bug-out van complete with electricity, food, water, TV, radio, shortwave, fridge, stove, bed, weapons, propane heat, fans, wifi, laptop, generator, and tools. I could live very comfortably for weeks and sacrifice no creature comforts. Something like only 1 out of 40 people are adequately prepared for an emergency. It's never too late to assemble your own bug-out vehicle or even just a bug-out bag or at the very least buy a flashlight and a jug of water... Actually, that's not true. It can be too late.

I have family that lost everything in the Camp Fire. They say Paradise is now basically a shanty town with people living in camp trailers on their burnt out lots, like in this Instagram post (not made by anyone I know). I'm sure a power shutoff is really going to be helpful for them right now.
None of my family members who lost homes during the Camp Fire have come back. Only a small fraction of the affected population is still there right now, and given the current state of the Paradise-Magnolia area, I feel bad for the people who are stuck there. Debris cleanup was still far from over the last I heard, let alone significant construction.
Unfortunately for Californians, that will almost certainly not be the last time that a wildfire of that magnitude occurs, nor will this be the last time that huge swathes of the state get the South African treatment from their utilities providers.

Welcome to California! Here are some other Americans who suffer from similar infrastructure problems:

Venezuela'd.

Serious bz though:

Utilities have been half assing maintanence for a very long time. A lot of it is done by 3rd party companies to cut costs on dat union labor.

It seems to me as though they take that excess money and roll it into solar panels in various configurations which make generating electricity cheaper for them.

Yet my bill never decreases...

They're regional monopolies. That's what regional monopolies do. All you can do to ditch their service is leave their region.

Former CA resident here and I lived in the Bay Area until April.

While it was easy for me to just open the windows at night and keep my power bill low, it was never as ideally low as it should have been.

I had several friends in the area during the fire and it was heartbreaking to see them lose their homes. All because the great minds at PG&E couldn't properly maintain their power lines. How are people not in prison for that will always baffle me.

PG&E has been a clownshow since the 80's. SoCal Edision isn't much better but they can at least avoid killing too many people with their bullshit fuckups. I'm sure PG&E will find a way to stack some more bodies behind this latest grand-plan.
To the tune of $11 million in performance bonuses. Didn't know people got rewarded for not properly maintaining their power lines, killing and injuring people, and making people homeless.

Berkeley will be closed. The rich neighborhoods in the Berkeley/Oakland areas are having their power shut off as well.
Remember the Berkeley Hills fires back in the early 90s?.

I have family that live in a fire prone area, but they keep their yard well maintained and watered, and finally bought a generator.

Central Valley is unaffected; guess it's not so good in your million dollar homes now, huh Bay Area?
San Francisco proper is entirely unaffected. Some rather unsavory parts of Oakland, however may not be so fortunate.
I am waiting for California suing them for depriving special needs people of power and forcing them to turn power on

I feel bad for the people with medical devices and shit who need power. RIP sleep apnea boomers
Hell, diabetics usually have to refrigerate their insulin. Is it only housing or are they blacking out businesses/grocery stores/hospitals too?
