The 5 Stages of Stress.
ADF has five distinct way’s of dealing with stress, and how he reacts to that stress, in this thread I will try and categorize each stage and give examples of what each stage looks like.
Stage 0 & Stage 0.5, The Happy place state’s.
This isn’t really one of the stages of direct stress but the other side of the same coin so I feel it’s important to understand, these are the fleeting moments of happiness Phil has in his life they are associated with him either doing something satisfying, feeling he’s won something or is about to.
The best examples of this are when He’s managed to eat a whole block of cheese or just got a fresh tattoo this is analogous to when OPL is feeling smug his ego is riding high on a guff of hot air that he thinks will last forever, while he remains completely oblivious to how fleeting that moment of happiness will be and he’s also unaware of how they are happening with less and less frequency.
Stage 1, Edge Lord.
This is default Phil, day to day Phil derps around in a state of frustration because he just can’t quite understand the world or people around him. So he reacts the only way he feels he can by putting on a rough and tough front in a effort to defend himself from feeling this way. It mostly becomes apparent in his day to day social interactions and what he posts on facebook, and the movements he gravitates towards. While this is mostly self serving he see’s some groups as way’s of proving just how tough and grown up he is, that also provides a handy bogy man he can blame for all his troubles and because of this shared enemy he see’s these groups as automatically accepting of his failings (note: he doesn’t think they are really failings and can’t really grasp why people think they are).
Stage 2, Chest Thumping!
This is when things start to get interesting, this is where you take Stage 1 Phil and ramp up the stress a little, in order to try and subdue the threat he perceives is currently making him feel bad he try’s to posture in such a way that the source of stress feel’s intimidated and backs away.
This is also the stage where the lies start getting just a little bit more unbelievable, but this stage is also interesting because it can be broken down into four parts.
A) Lie’s of intimidation, These are the lies that he uses to try and make himself look big, such as “If I see any cameras the Kiwi’s will get jumped” or lies about where he currently is or where he is going to try and throw us off the scent, see the caps in the mega thread he posted where you can see a fake GPS location app, and his lies about the road trip.
B) Lie’s of accomplishment, this is when things start to get really ludicrous. Once he thinks the stage A lies haven’t had the desired effect he then starts outright intimidation, Phil equates power with authority and to him the most obvious power is getting his enemy’s to fear his physical prowess, so he makes up lies about jumping some one who supposedly took his photo and then pulling the SD card and throwing it down a drain, or back around the time he was at the Occupy rally he supposedly took some one down in the style of one of his anime hero’s and most laughably culminating in the drive the drive by fiasco.
This stage is almost never successful because by this time people even people he feels are his friends can see through the lies, so this is when he changes tact to something that will garner what he seeks most of all and is currently missing from his life, Sympathy so stage C and D starts.
C) Fishing for attention, he does this in two way’s with varying degrees of success. The first is the most documented and that’s the suicide attempts, he knows that the LGBT community still sadly has a issue with suicide of vulnerable individuals mostly in there teens, so he makes a big show of saying “Good bye cruel world!!!” in a attempt to try and get his friends to say how lovely and important he is or to try and get shelter and a full belly, this has worked for him quite a few times in the past but due to his nature, and word that’s going ahead of him and because of the shear number of attempts he’s had in the last few years it’s not working as well as it used to and he’s trying to work out why his golden standard trick isn’t working as well as it used to and is quite bemused by it.
D) The fourth and finally series of lies in stage two is one he uses less frequently because of it’s limited success rate but when he uses it he does so in a more targeted way. When there is a identifiable person that he can have or has had physical contact with that has caused him stress he accuses them of Rape.
This is a behavior he has picked up and learned to use in a very kack handed way from the SJW’s he has hung around with in the past, but to him it makes a warped form of sense, ie. “All men are big, mean and scary and I am claiming to be a woman so I’ll play the rape card, that will make him go away and I’ll get sympathy” to him this looks like a win / win kind of lie so he used to deploy it with more regularity starting with the lie’s about his father, and then on at least three other occasions before he became a focus of attention for the Farms, one of them being in the doorway of the Red and Black Café when he accused another doorway hotel patron of fingering his ass and urinating on him, but he’s shocked it hasn’t worked with any great success rate apart from initial contact with people where he drops the “Daddy Rape Day” lie to soften up the group he’s trying to ingratiate himself with.
To others it’s obvious why it’s not working because he lies every other word about the most minor of things, the number of times he’s claimed to have been raped and his physical appearance and general cleanliness wouldn’t endear him to such a assault or the frequency that they supposedly happen.
Stage 3, Fantasy land!
This is the Stage where thing’s start getting really odd, Phil as we all know has the happy place called Australatina that he’s created extensive maps of, military uniforms and statistics but no real cultural information, but it’s the imposing of order and wish fulfillment that matters to Phil not the back story.
And for a while when DID was in fashion with the Tumblr and SJW set’s he associates with he also had this globe trotting FTM head mate that was also his Dom in a S&M relationship, this was a short lived phase for a few years and he still created Australatina content during this time but Amaterasu’s existence is quite informative about when Phil is in this stage of stress.
Phil used this persona to engage nearly totally in wish fulfillment, he wanted to travel some ware well guess what he posted a status as Amaterasu saying he has, wanted to beat some one up guess what Amaterasu did for the same reasons Phil wanted to but was to chicken to do so in real life, non of these events occurred any ware outside of Phil’s imagination he’s even gone so far as talking to tweaker the cat for a whole evening as this character in late 2012.
His old reliable never far away fantasy world however is that of Australatina, and he seems to go there in a number of way’s depending on how severe the stress and the duration is he feels he’s under.
a) Cartography, This is where Phil is really starting to feel the pinch of what ever situation he finds himself in and want’s a distraction. He will pull out his notebook for a while and do one of two things. The first is touching up any of the details he thinks is lacking in a map he currently has open in front of him if that’s not enough of a distraction for his addled brain the second thing he does is he starts a new map and depending on how stressed he is he looks for a distraction by creating more and more complex map’s in one form or another, from simple political heat map’s right the way to fully detailed transit maps and prefecture break downs of the country that are never the same from one map to the next.
b) When making new an more complex maps isn’t enough he further tries to impose some form of order on his confused mental state by creating population, trade and transport statistics for his land of make believe. And the more stressed he is the more detail they seem to possess and he will also back date them as well for several years in some cases. Details I have seen are Population percentage under arms (way more than the USSR or China ever had), Break downs of what percentage of the armed forces are in what branch, Religious composition, Ethnic background an there dispersal by region (this is really important to him) and then unemployment statistics, HIV / AIDS patients etc and as I said he really goes into detail with this at times depending on his mood.
c) Small scale maps, This he doesn’t really do much of because by this point he’s either ran away from the problem, ignored it till it’s gone away or some one has made him feel special for a while but he will create more detailed local maps of city’s in his country with names lifted from the real world he will also add statistical data to this when he’s feeling creative. However the layouts are often perplexing and make no general sense on a town planning level, This goes as far as creating traffic flow diagrams for fictional intersection road signs are included in part A and this goes really into detail about what sign and road markings should go before a left turn and warning signs for cyclists and school zones etc,.
His road layouts really are the pinnacle of his Autism before he moves on to the final stage of his coping strategy, and when he get’s to that level of detail he is functioning at a very base level of emotional development and awareness of the world outside his head and is hyper focused so he can live out his fantasy’s, impose some fine detail order on something in his life and more importantly ignore what’s going on around him and when he can’t do that, that’s when Stage 4 happens.
Stage 4, MAXIMUM CHIMPOUT!
This is the final stage of Phil’s coping mechanisms and it’s the one that’s most likely to get him into serious trouble some day and interestingly is the only one where Phil is likely to become violent but it will only happen in a very limited set of circumstances that I will detail below, however It should be noted that when this happens he can’t control it and it only ever happens in person (and that’s why it’s the one that’s going to get him into trouble).
Once Phil get’s to this stage to him all is lost, Ignoring the problem hasn’t worked, Lies haven’t worked, Manipulation hasn’t worked and he’s genuinely at his limit of his emotional and intellectual comprehension so in the back of his reptile brain the flight or flight response math’s kicks in because he’s backed into a corner he's not emotionally or mentally equipped to handle.
“Well ignoring it’s not worked, shouting’s not worked, moaning’s not worked, lies haven’t worked… PANIC! PANIC! PANIC! FIGHT AND RUN IT’S YOUR ONLY HOPE FOR SURVIVAL DO IT NOW!” That’s exactly what his brain is telling him to do and because it’s him telling himself that he will listen and he lashes out Physically.
This has happened on two occasions that we can verify with 100% certainty, Once with his Mum when she asked him over a period of time to pull his weight and contribute to the house hold, and the second time with his first Fiancé Maria, it should also be noted that so far he’s been lucky that both of his targets have been smaller and weaker than himself or he would have come off the loser in these incidents. And they should not be mixed in with stage 2 intimidation lies or when he is trying to make himself look like the oppressed urban commando image he wants to project to the world because when they happened he wasn’t in control of his faculties and the stage 2 lies he’s fully aware of what he’s saying and doing no matter how ludicrous the lies are or how gullible he thinks his target is.
So that’s it the 5 stages of how Phil deals with Stress, if you have any questions or want some finer points clarifying please ask.
Also taking a leaf out of Phil's book I am not tagging people who said they would be interested in this write up, @Vitriol @TremendousBoredom @Flame the Sunbird @Rin @VLAD @Blake Bumbleby
