Plagued Pokémon Generation Elitists - Unovabortions and others

We all know the stereotype of "genwunners" - Pokémon fans who only acknowledge the original 151 and hate anything that came afterwards. However, these people are usually stereotyped as "normies" and "dudebros", who, apart from their tastes in Pokémon, aren't usually laughably strange enough to be covered here, and it is indeed true that Gen I is the most marketable and profitable set of Pokémon.

Every generation other than Kanto, on the other hand, has a legion of elitist hipsters who bend logic and everything else to justify why their preferred generation isn't the absolute most famous or most mainstream.

By far the worst in this respect are "Unovabortions", fans who worship Gen V (Pokémon Black and White), and bash anything genwun-related while making ridiculous and counter-intuitive claims about why their generation deserves to be Game Freak's lovechild and why they, the special snowflakes, need to be catered to instead of the people who ACTUALLY give the franchise money. They were a real force to be reckoned with in Summer 2016, and I (or anyone with time) could probably look at a 4chan archive to dig up some of their ridiculous posts.

I don't see this thread lasting long considering there isn't really a "community" of gen elitists, so to speak. Fans of a specific generation, sure, but most of what you will find is sporadic arguments within large forums caused by troll bait posts.

They're nothing but annoying manbaby spergs complaining that Pokémon continues to be popular with children and productive for twenty years and creating a fictional world full of fictional creatures they can only bother to remember like 10% of 750+ names. Many of them are also the ones who say the first season of the anime is the best and everything else after it sucks, though even non-genwunners believe this, too.

The stupid starter wars is part of the reason why I love Bulbasaur and will pick it over the others, if only for the priceless reactions of "Why would you pick that???" I honestly don't get the hate for the little guy, and if it's because of the IVs/EVs (I'm surprised Smogon doesn't have a community watch thread), I feel less inclined to agree with them.

Those were some of my favourite games, but I'll always have fond memories of Gen IV.

But more seriously, it's a children's game so why get so angry over which is best? That's what the kids should be doing, not mature and responsible people like Redditors and the Kiwi Farms userbase.

Sure! Tonight or tomorrow, I'll do a search of some of the less savory Pokémon communities to give this thread a little more meat.

Another thing to keep in mind: while I'm sure there are genwunners who are devoted fans, most of them make dismissive "Cowboy Bebop At His Computer"-type comments about newer gens - which is one reason they're disrespected by the other generation elitists, who are usually more geeky and a lot of them show more of a fanatical devotion and understanding of Pokémon. That's why they might be worth an investigation.

For one thing, the Pokémon fanbase is very immature (lots of kids who are just old enough to post on internet forums, and manchildren of a similar mentality) so a lot of people go berserk when something they don't like is pandered to, and gen elitists are no exception.

I love Gen 1 because of its glitches. I think it makes the games really fun, but my actual favorite was probably Gen IV because I had a lot of fun using cheats to find weird things.

Nope. It was huge (and hilarious), but it's died down since. There's a thread on Pokémon lolcows that could've been necroed for that very purpose, but there's no point to it.
