Hippowdon is fun and also really good if you can deal with constant Sandstorms, I had one in my OG team in Pearl.

Glaceon was another hidden gem of GEN IV.
I love Glaceon, I have a shiny one who is still stuck in Ultra Moon. I also have one of the slightly fucked up possibly bootleg Poke Dolls of it (the matching Leafeon's eyes are down at the bottom of its face).

Its hard to tell its shiny because its the same color palette as the normal one but a shiny effect.
Trust me, I know how shitty Luxray was before Wild Charge, I still call it “Suxray” to this day. I’m using it for the sake of challenge.
My latest run of Platinum was a Bibarel solo run, and it was pretty strong. Never underestimate Defense Curl + Rollout.
I love the small hidden move interactions in Pokemon like Rollout + Defense Curl and Minimize + Stomp.
Out of curiosity I looked up these hidden interactions and there's a lot more than I thought. Shamelessly stolen from this Reddit Post.

- Toxic As of Gen VI it will never miss if used by a Poison-type Pokémon, even during the semi-invulnerable turn of moves such as Fly and Dig.
- Dig As of Gen II the user of the move now cannot avoid Earthquake, Magnitude, or Fissure during the semi-invulnerable turn and will receive double damage from Earthquake and Magnitude, unless the digging Pokémon would not receive damage from the moves normally (i.e. Flying-type Pokémon or those with the Ability Levitate).
- Dive Surf and Whirlpool will do twice the damage to the submerged Pokémon.
- The user of the moves Fly/Bounce and the target of Sky Drop can be hit by Stone Edge (Pokemon using Fly Only), Smack Down, Hurricane, Sky Uppercut, Gust, Thunder, Twister, and Whirlwind (Except for targets of Sky Drop/Bounce) during the semi-invulnerable turn, and will receive double damage from Gust and Twister, unless the flying Pokémon would not receive damage from the moves (i.e. Ground-type Pokémon will not be affected by Thunder). The user can be "knocked out of the sky" with the move Smack Down.
- Rain (Weather) - Boosts water attacks by 50% whereas the base damage of SolarBeam and Fire-type moves will be decreased by 50%. Synthesis, Morning Sun, and Moonlight will recover only half as much HP as under clear conditions. Hurricane and Thunder ignore accuracy and evasion under the effect of Rain. In Pokémon Diamond and Pearl, the move Thunder has a 30% chance of bypassing Protect and Detect under Rain. Heavy Rain Causes Fire-type moves to fail if used. Causes the moves Rain Dance, Sunny Day, Sandstorm, and Hail to fail if used. Causes the Abilities Drizzle, Drought, Sand Stream, and Snow Warning to fail.
- Intense Sunlight (Weather) - While Sunny Day is in effect, the base power of Fire-type moves will be increased by 50%, and the base power of Water-type moves will be decreased by 50%. In addition to this, the moves Synthesis, Morning Sun, and Moonlight will recover ⅔ of the user's HP as under clear conditions, and SolarBeam will not require a turn to charge. Growth raises the user's Attack and Special Attack by two stages instead of just one. Hurricane and Thunder's accuracy will be lowered. Prevents Pokémon from becoming frozen. Harvest ability will never fail to restore a Berry. Extremely Harsh Sunlight Causes Water-type moves to fail if used. Causes the moves Rain Dance, Sunny Day, Sandstorm, and Hail to fail if used. Causes the Abilities Drizzle, Drought, Sand Stream, and Snow Warning to fail.
- Hail (Weather) - Blizzard will hit during Hail regardless of target's evasion and user's accuracy. Causes Solar Beam to deal only half its normal damage. Causes Moonlight, Synthesis, and Morning Sun to recover ¼ of the user's maximum HP. In Pokémon Diamond and Pearl, allows Blizzard to hit through Protect and Detect 30% of the time. Activates the following Abilities: Forecast, Ice Body, and Snow Cloak.
- Sandstorm (Weather) - Raises the Special Defense of all Rock-type Pokémon by 50%. Causes Solar Beam to only deal half of its normal damage. Causes Moonlight, Synthesis, and Morning Sun to recover ¼ of max HP. Sand Veil Ability increase evasion by 1 stage (25%), Sand Rush Ability doubles Speed, and Sand Force gives a power boost of 30% for Rock, Ground, and Steel type moves. All of these Abilities grant an immunity to Sandstorm's damaging effect.
- Fog (Weather) - Doubles the power of Weather Ball. Weather Ball's type does not change, nor does Castform change form or type. Lowers the Accuracy of all Pokémon battling by 10%. Causes Moonlight, Synthesis, and Morning Sun to only recover ¼ of max HP.
- Minimize As of Gen VI the moves Stomp, Steamroller, Body Slam, Dragon Rush, Flying Press, and Phantom Force will never miss and their base power is doubled when used against the Minimize user.
- Rock Climb has a 20% chance of confusing the opponent.
- Grassy Terrain Restores the HP of grounded Pokémon by 1/16 at the end of each turn and increases the power of Grass-type moves used by grounded Pokémon by 50%. The power of Earthquake, Bulldoze, and Magnitude is halved.
- Electric Terrain Prevents any Pokémon on the ground from falling asleep and increases the power of Electric-type moves used by grounded Pokémon by 50%. Prevents grounded Pokémon already drowsy due to Yawn from falling asleep. Rest will also fail when used by a grounded Pokémon.
- Misty Terrain Prevents Non-volatile status conditions (Burn, Freeze, Paralysis, Poison, Sleep) and halves the damage taken from Dragon-type moves by Pokémon on the ground. Prevents grounded Pokémon already drowsy due to Yawn from falling asleep.
- Freeze (Status Condition) Damaging Fire-type moves used on a frozen Pokémon will remove the freeze status (including Hidden Power, if its type is Fire). A frozen Pokémon can still use the moves Flame Wheel, Sacred Fire, Flare Blitz, Fusion Flare, and Scald while frozen; these moves will thaw the user, then execute normally. Ice-type Pokémon and those with the Magma Armor Ability are completely immune to being frozen by Ice-type moves; however, Ice-type Pokémon can be frozen by Tri Attack and Secret Power.
- Buneary/Lopunny Holding an Assault Vest with the ability Klutz can use Switcheroo for a permanent Taunt on an opponent.
- Trapinch You can name it Darude and teach it Sandstorm for ultimate lulz. Gible seems to work too but may not be as awesome.
- Protect Doom Desire, Feint, Future Sight, Phantom Force, and Shadow Force all go through Protect.
- Round Inflicts damage which will double in power to 120 if used consecutively by an ally. If used by an ally, it will be directly after the first user, regardless of speed. According to /u/draculabooty If you have a Round user with 120 base speed, and one with 60 base speed, and your opponent has 2 Pokemon with base 100 speed, both of your Pokemon will move before theirs.
- Gravity Prevents Pokémon from reaping Ground-type immunity through flying or levitating. Gravity also cancels and prevents moves that cause the user to become airborne, including Bounce, Fly, Splash (WTF?), Jump Kick, Hi Jump Kick, and Magnet Rise. Gravity also decreases the evasion of all Pokémon in battle by two stages. Gravity cancels the effect of Telekinesis and prevents it from being used. Gravity also negates the effects of Air Balloon.
- Roost If the user is a Flying-type, it will lose its Flying-type (thus being treated as a single-type Pokémon) until the next turn. If a non-Flying-type uses Roost, then there are no side-effects. As of Gen V if a pure Flying-type Pokémon uses Roost, it will become Normal-type until the end of the turn.
- Toxic Spikes One layer of Toxic Spikes causes opposing Pokémon to acquire the Poison status ailment upon switching in, while two or more layers causes opposing Pokémon to become badly poisoned. If a Poison-type Pokémon that is not also a Flying-type or has the Ability Levitate is switched in, it will absorb Toxic Spikes and the effect of Toxic Spikes will end. The moves Rapid Spin and Defog remove the effect of Toxic Spikes; Rapid Spin removes Toxic Spikes set around the Rapid Spinner while Defog removes Toxic Spikes set around the target of Defog.
- Incinerate Renders the target's Berry and Gem unusable.
- Rapid Spin Removes the effects of any moves that partially trap (i.e. Bind, Fire Spin, Whirlpool), as well as entry hazards (i.e. Spikes, Toxic Spikes, Stealth Rock), from the user and allies, provided that the user does not faint from recoil damage (such as from Rough Skin). Also user /u/Armorend says that secondary effects of Rapid Spin will fail if it misses, so if an opponent is a Ghost-type then Rapid Spin wont work, but I could not find confirmation on this
- Weakness Policy If you have a Pokemon that's weak to Dark type attacks holding a Weakness Policy, the effects of the Weakness Policy will kick in before Knock Off can remove it. Could not confirm

Damn, the Bibarel argument is very convincing. It has quite a few moves I enjoy having on my Pokemon. Swords Dance, Super Fang, Rollout... not sure if giving it Whirlpool would be worth it since its Special Attack is mediocre, but it's a move I use a lot and something to consider to chip away some extra damage.

I've used all three of them, and I've actually been planning on getting a shiny Roserade in Sword. If I'm lucky enough, maybe I'll even get a shiny Togekiss. They really grew on me after using them, especially Honchkrow.
As well as Drifloon and Drifblim being super cute, Aftermath is a fun ability. In Black 2, I had a Drifblim with Aftermath I had on my team. I also use a Skuntank with Aftermath in Sword I use when fighting friends.

Fighting the elite four, those aftermath Driftblims were tough and basically crippled or halfed your current pokemon's HP every time.
Not everyone had a leafeon or glaceon though.
It was a bit obscure with the whole "specific location on the map" rock thing for both of them with no context given anywhere in the game.

I mean, there was also the fact that neither were very good, you were better off with a Vaporeon, Jolteon, or Espeon(Flareon sucked even more than it does now in Gen IV due to Fire Fang being its only physical fire move, and stall-based Pokemon like Umbreon aren't that good for in-game runs due to how long battles take when you use them, especially in a gen with an already slow battle interface)
Am I the only one who dislikes Lucario... not out of association with furries, either? That Pokémon is exceptionally popular, but I always found Lucario ddly ugly in my point of view. Bogleech managed to explain my feelings (even those regarding Riolu):

I've always found Lucario to be really boring because he might as well just be a human. I don't particularly care for Zoroark either except it's incredibly cool ability that I feel is wasted on a really mediocre Mon. My dislike leans more towards the fact that they're just fursuit Pokemon though.
I'd disagree for Zoroark. His proportions and design are dynamic enough to distinguish him from the anthro mons that might as well be food mascots.
Here. If I want to have a mon that can use Aura Sphere then I just use Togekiss. Togekiss is a top tier gen 4 mon and I hate it isn't more popular. I never do a Platinum/HGSS playthrough without one on my team.

If you out there, might I recommend Abomasnow, Cherrim, Vespiquen, Gliscor, to again name a few? Hell, toss Lumineon in there as well. All of these are mons I would like to use in a playthrough, but we only have the 1, after all.
Gligar and Gliscor not being Ground/Poison pisses me off. Cherrim in Dynamax Adventures is pretty helpful, but iirc getting it in D/P/Pt is a pain in the ass. Lumineon I have considered, it's growing on me because of New Pokemon Snap. Multiple people in thread suggested Bibarel which I'll be using as my Water-type, so I'll probably make a secondary team with it and Cherrim (since Turtwig will be my starter). Gliscor is a good suggestion though, thank you!
I used Abomasnow and Vespiquen in previous runs. Admittedly, I cheated so I could get a Vespiquen because I wanted to use it. Both of them are pretty good, but Abomasnow specifically was a bit of a glass cannon in my experience. I actually have at least two shiny Abomasnow in Ultra Moon thanks to the Ultra Wormholes (at one point I had it as my goal to get all the shinies from them, which I haven't done yet...) and am tempted to try and get a shiny Vespiquen. Hopefully not by cheating this time.
But remember: emulation is free, my friend. You can use them through that if you really want to.
I never cared for Lucario as a Pokémon itself, but the eighth movie made one sympathetic that I have to constantly remind myself Sir Aaron's Lucario is not every other Lucario. Kinda similar to how I have to remind myself anime Mewtwo is his own separate interesting character from game Mewtwo despite the similar origins (especially when Pokémon: The Origin was released).
Zoroark has the best design, though, yes. Too bad the 13th movie didn't really capture people's attention, and that it was already difficult enough to get it for yourself in B/W (seriously, wtf).

Yes. It carried over up into the Gen VII games in the form of that optional petting minigame after each battle.
Cherrim is hot garbage, you might as well be suggesting Wormadam/Mothim. They would be fun in challenge runs though.
