Police arrested a 24-year-old male on Monday for allegedly issuing a death threat to NGT48 idol group member Yuka Ogino.

The police arrested the suspect, Kazuki Dōmoto, after he allegedly sent a letter by fax to a news organization on May 9 that indicated that he was planning to kill Ogino. The police stated that Dōmoto admitted to sending the letter, but denied any intention of killing Ogino.

NGT48 is a sister group of the AKB48 idol group based in Niigata prefecture, and it launched in 2015. NGT48 members Maho Yamaguchi, Riko Sugahara, and Rena Hasegawa graduated from the group on Saturday, months after Yamaguchi commented in January on her alleged assault in December.

I know very little about Japanese idols and the insane culture that surrounds them, but none of it is good.

I remember one of them had to apologize for being physically assaulted because being the victim of a physical beating ruined people's perfect image of her or something, even though there were no physical marks on her.

They've also been punished for being caught with their boyfriends because it ruins the fantasy that their fans might actually get with one of them.

I feel like this must be an obvious question somehow, but by fax?

My guess is that it is considered the most respectful way to notify someone of your intent to kill them without having to actually speak with them. The Japanese are a mysterious and fascinating people.

I've heard rumors that because of the average age of Japanese workers combined with bureaucracies that fax machines are still heavily used in Japan. I can't prove that though outside of a Google search.
