I've spent a fair amount of time debating on political forums, and pretty much every political forum out there is pretty much complete shit.
I assume the typical userbase of these forums consists of either dumb Americans who get all their information on the world from MSNBC, Fox News, Rush Limbaugh, or Stephen Colbert. Along with a handful of extremists or Alex Jones-type cranks who just use them as a place to rant about whatever crazy conspiracy theory they've come up with. And of course there are plenty of folks who are just pure trolls who argue just for the sake of arguing and love how easy it is to rile people up.
The religion and philosophy sections are just as awful, usually filled either with angry atheists or extreme religious cooks.
The only redeeming thing about them is that they're a wonderful example of just how much over-exposure to American media rots your mind, and might serve to help non-Americans have a first-eye look at everything that's wrong with American politics in general.

(IMDB's political forum was naturally a complete shithole before it closed down).

A couple lulzworthy topics that caught my eye today that pass for 'debate' on these pseudo-intellectual shitholes:
*Apparently Valentine's Day was actually invented by evil pagans who want to make you get drunk and rape minors... or something:

Some idiot claims that "private property is theft"... while posting from his privately owned computer

Global warming will cause civilization to collapse within 100 years, yawn:

Some fundamentalist Christian postes a thread called "Homosexualism exposed" using a Muslim publisher as a source:

The worst thing I've noticed about these kind of websites, is that unlike the neckbeards you might run into on some gamer forum arguing about "Xbox vs Sony", most of these folks think they're intelligent and informed just because they "keep up with the news", and are pretty much entirely oblivious to how most of what they post just boils down to unintentional trolling which they believe they're entirely serious about.
