How to know when you're dealing with someone who probably shouldn't be in a relationship:

...If this artist is holding him/herself out as some sort of ambassador for polyamory, all they've managed to do is reinforce stereotypes.

Actually, that comic is very educational! Almost every poly relationship I've seen in real life features exactly what I see in that comic: "Obese nerds who can't control their emotions asking slightly less fat people to have group sex with them."
I challenge anybody on here to say that's demonstrably wrong. (Not including polyamory as an "I want to leave my S.O. but only if dating this other person works out well." tactic.)

I have to admit I don't "get" polymory, and god knows this thread isn't making it any more attractive. It seems like trying to split a check between multiple friends. All the negotiating and bargaining and bitchy "hey I only got ___!" But applied to every facet of a relationship.

I haven't heard any benefits to polyamory that aren't outstripped in every way by hookers. No drama. Clear terms. No conflict. You can have a threesome without trying to negotiate an emotional minefield that rivals the DMZ, and the lesbian action will be a lot hotter without all the excess cellulose, body hair, and nounself gender identities.
Less rick of legal action and more children if you happen to be an Arab prince (but their wives are basically prostitutes anyways so it doesn't apply)
That's actually what it's often about. It's not the sex, the "love", or the freedom; it's about aggregating drama. More "relationships" equals more drama, pure and simple.
They love to go on about how happy they are, but keep in mind that some people aren't happy unless they're at the center of a storm of sweet, attention-whoring, self-inflicted misery--especially Tumblrinas.
Kimchi Cuddles isn't a comic solely about polyamory, but it DOES focus on it a lot. in fact, though it says it's meant to spread awareness of "poly, queer, and genderqueer issues" in the description, i think almost all the strips are about polyamory, or feature it as some element to whatever types of oppression the featured generic tumblr charicature is facing in that specific strip. the strips that don't focus solely on polyamory are honestly probably just thrown in there to fulfill the Tumblr Diversity Quota so tumblr doesn't burn the creator at the stake.
(fun fact: i actually forgot the name of this comic but i remembered the concept and wanted to post about it on here, so i googled "poly queer comic" and it was the first result. lmao.)
there's even a fucking chart detailing the relationships between all the recurring characters, even though none of them have any distinctive personalities and there's not much interaction between most of these characters so i didn't even realize any of them WERE recurring characters until i saw this chart.
it's almost impossible to read.
in-comic, a lot of these relationships sound REALLY unhappy and unhealthy, too. partners express feeling left out and insecure but it's never actually addressed. when conflicts ARE addressed the characters use long, drawn out explanations of their feelings that sound about as realistic as the script for an afterschool special from the 90s.
actually, almost every comic is written with long, drawn-out explanations as to what every character is thinking and feeling. seriously, even from the thumbnails you can tell how tl;dr this shit is - go to the blog archives and just look at this shit:

Trying not to powerlevel too much, but I'll share a bit. Never understood the appeal of polyamory, never will. I had an Ex who was into that kind of thing, though he never did tell me anything until after I discovered he was cheating (Which he tried to justify with the poly excuse). The whole 'free love' and wanting to express your deepest feelings to more than just one person is bullshit. Relationships with more than two are often bound to end in tense drama, jealousy, and overall emotional strain. Hell, I even know a married couple that are giving this a try with a women they just met a few months ago. Their 3 year old daughter is in the mix of this mess, probably trying to understand why mommy and daddy are kissing some hooker on the living room couch.
Tumblr glamorizing this shit doesn't make it any better. Do what ya'll want, but if shit stirs up in the middle of that 'lovefest' because you ain't getting enough attention, that's your own fault.
