I'm pretty sure we have a polyamory thread somewhere already.

But i would just like to say that my favorite thing about the polyamory community is the fact that because their entire philosophy is based around tolerating being treated like shit by the people they love, as a troll its very easy to get a reaction from them with very little effort. Because even a somewhat "out there" story is still not as bad as some of the shit they legitimately have to deal with to keep the fantasy going.

A lot of the shit you see in polyamory hangouts rank very high on the "Poe's Law" category for this reason.

I find it interesting how most poly people are on the left politically. It is incredibly clear from an examination of history and anthropology that societies are more likely to involve socially sanctioned polygamous relationships when there is more structural inequality.

It makes sense ... people of both sexes are attracted to wealth and power and might be willing to trade exclusivity for a sense of security. Typically, legal systems enforcing monogamy have been viewed as essentially handouts for the poor, who would be unable to afford wives if rich men could openly marry a harem.

They claim in this new movement to be all about equality and fairness, but they give less than zero thought to the broader consequences of widely accepted polygamy. That is what gives the game away: there is nothing high minded, virtuous, or genuinely political about this movement. Those are just justifications for narcissistic behavior patterns.

You're thinking way too deep for this. Poly nowadays means "I can fuck around on you, you (maybe) can fuck around on me, and we'll both pretend we don't have issues with it" about 95% of the time.

The only person I know that was in a poly relationship eventually had to end up breaking off with them because their partner ended up favoring another partner in the relationship.
I think that most poly relationships can't and won't workout, and even if they do they end up being unbalanced as with the case of my online acquaintance.

I don't doubt it. Usually, when unintended consequences loom large over a social issue, the people actually engaging in it at the base level aren't trying to do anything more than make their own personal lives better. Deciding you want everyone to treat you like a woman when you were born male is about wanting your individual life to be more fulfilling or better, but the unintended consequence of committing to the idea of trans at a societal level is stuff like men winning women's sporting events. Deciding you'd like to be a shut-in 100% of the time instead of socializing in the real world is about avoiding anxiety provocation, but when enough people do it, it becomes a widespread social phenomenon that keeps birth rates low and self-reinforces among online recluses. Tulip speculators just want to be individually rich, but when tulip speculation is engaged in by a wide swath of a society, it leads to complete economic devastation.

There's a reason societies that allow polygamy are backwards shitholes. It's because one or two people practicing it, or people doing it while having to hide from a society that shuns the idea, isn't going to have detrimental results from an equality perspective. But when a significant proportion of the society starts doing it, it creates major social and economic incentives for inequality.

My personal experience with Poly people follows this into 3 simple categories

1. They are usually people who love to hop around with people and honestly only ever use them for sex and little else
2. Have some sort of mental or emotional problem that basically links to there status as a Poly in some way
3. Love to enforce cuckoldry as the best method for a relationship, to the point where they might even have there partner passed around without them really agreeing to it

But that's just me, those are some of the kinds of Poly people i have seen over the internet.

All the people I personally know who claim to be poly fall into two categories.

1. Mentally ill women whose relationships all fell apart due to infidelity by their partners (lol wut?)
2. Women who are social signalling about that time they had an experiment in college and live as straight, cis women who are married to straight cis white males.

And on the male side you get:

3. Milquetoast betas who get cuckolded/know they will eventually and try to save face by making it an "enlightened" lifestyle choice ("you wouldn't understand, she's got too much love for one person! The other guy's just sharing her with me, th-that's all!" people have actually said this to me)
4. Even beta-er shutin incel types on the edge of going prison gay who join some ho's gaggle of partners, usually being exploited in the process ("at least I'm getting some! so what if my bank account's empty?")
5. Crazy pervs/transcreatures/fetishists who band together because nobody else will take them ("Our queer commune doesn't operate by your oppressive monogamous standards!")

Typically all very weak personalities, sexually desperate, and socially inept, they put themselves in an even weaker position of complete submission to a woman, who herself is usually near the bottom of the social hierarchy and masks her insecurities by ordering around multiple partners.

The whole "poly" concept reeks of confusion and desperation on both sides. I remember 10+ years ago it was only a small group of frequently mocked turbonerds in dank corners of livejournal who would do this sort of thing, but it's become disturbingly popular. I guess that's what happens when you have a growing minority of people who are so poorly socialized they have no intuitive grasp on relationships (something earlier generations had), and are more inclined to listen to retards on the internet and questionable boners than tradition, wisdom, and common sense.
