I find these creepy as fuck but I'm a sucker for craftmanship and I know people who wear these who aren't complete speds.

Kigurumi were originally used like mickey-mouse costumes at disney. They still are I believe, at japanese theme-parks and shit. They wanted to imitate the kid's favorite anime characters as accurately as humanly possible so they wouldn't throw a fit. I believe some anime studios pay people to wear their anime-gao. Plenty of women wear them.

And uh, lemme tell you they look better in still shots. An unmoving doll-face, as you can imagine is pretty horrifying irl. Kids like em though.

I just find it pretty interesting honestly.

Yep. I included some in the dump. I think they are kinda cute in photos, and if I had a small child that liked anime I'd take them there happily, but honestly it's just how their expressions don't change that creeps me out. Some kigurumi masks have follow-me-eyes in an attempt to remedy that.

I'm conflicted. For one thing, they're unsettling as hell since they look more like animatronic dolls, but the detail and dedication to make them look as authentic as possible wins my full respect. Like the folks who make these themselves could easily go into the entertainment business as practical effects/make-up artists and be some of the best in the field, but instead they use it for cosplay and not to get paid (far as I know).

But at least they're a step above furries, I suppose. Guess that's better than nothing.
