Mania 2 is basically inevitable, and my only two hopes for it are that it's made by the same team, and they don't add Shadow. The first is a dealbreaker, the second would just annoy me (though apparently Sega themselves insisted Shadow not be in Mania at all so fingers crossed).
I just hope they don't go whole-hog on Chaotix and make the character link a permanent thing. It would be fun as hell for one or two levels, but I kind of got tired of it. At the risk of sounding spergy, why is Shadow a hated character? I've honestly never played any of the games with him for long, are his controls perma broke or something?
Look up any footage from the Shadow the Hedgehog game, or just look up the "Ow, the Edge" meme. Then you'll find out.
I replayed Sly Cooper a year ago and the whole game just had such an incredibly refreshing feel, good story, good characters and it never felt like it had to walk on eggshells about anything, 2000s culture really was something special.
That's something I've noticed is that the survival horror genre has a huge female fan following.
His backstory reeks of fanfiction and the Shadow the Hedgehog game permanently made him a laughing stock. And yes, he controls terribly in that game and ‘06.
I confidently predict we’re going to start seeing games aimed at ‘straight white cismale power fantasists’ emerge unapologetically very soon. And that they are going to start doing well in comparison to the wokewashed crap which is increasingly selling poorly and driving companies out of business.
I played that back in the day but have yet to really revisit it, I never played 3 at all sadly, but maybe one of these days.
Every trend eventually runs it's course, there's no way games are going to stay Woke forever, the pendulum is going to swing back the other way and it's going to be awesome.
You know how people groan when a lesbian or trans person is added to a game just to pander? Characters like Shadow were the trannies or the early 2000's. Another example would be like The Prince from Warrior Within and it could even be it successful like Jak in Jak 2.
He's like Drizzt from Forgotten Realms. Endless amount of shitty copies from edgy kids.
So...going back to the roots to make money then? God, I hope so.
