The deal was that the hotel had just recently finished remodeling the rooms and the Super Bowl was due in town (San Jose) in a matter of weeks. The rooms were running something like $700/night for Super Bowl weekend, which is the price point where they go "oh fuck, we are not going to let a water damaged chair stay that room." So they charged them $3k to reupholster it.
Don't fuck with football.
This is correct. It was a chair, and it was $3k. (The chair was also put underneath a tent, so they did take precautions; what happened was that it rained sideways and water got underneath the tent). I think anybody would be annoyed if they got charged $3,000 for a chair being wet, honestly.
