This is something I agree with and makes sense of a lot of Leftist habits - they essentially have what George Orwell called 'negative nationalism', in which their primary belief is how bad the established order of things and Western civilisation as a whole is, which influences all their thoughts, even those which don't really have much to do with the West (Peter Thiel touches on this a bit in his 1995 book The Diversity Myth, too) . I've heard a number of reasons for it that probably all have some merit - that it's a new kind of classism, separating urban and professional classes from the proles, that it's a debasement of Christian theology's notions of sin (there's psychological studies on the appeal of guilt and shame and evolutionary biology issues around the social function of those emotions here, too), that there's a small influence because of a lack of selection against 'spiteful mutants' who want to make society better for their fucked-up needs, and no doubt some others I'm forgetting - but I've yet to see a book which brings together the philosophical, psychological, historical and economic elements to give a cohesive view. A pity, although not surprising, since you'd need to be across many different disciplines and have a lot of time.

the whole yang thing actually does bother me quite a bit because not only is it utterly predictable, but also nobody gives a shit that it is predictable. nobody gives a shit about falling into the nihilism trap. they even seem to revel in it from an external view. currently i'm going through fukuyama's origins of political order and i have a feeling that he's going to touch on some of this stuff in the second volume, titled the origins of political decay (i don't agree with fukuyama's optimism about democratic order but he definitely does his research well). UToronto cog sci professor john vervaeke is doing work on "the meaning crisis" that i was surprised, and also somewhat frustrated, hadn't been done systematically that i was aware of up to this point with the exception of the existentialists, none of whom were able to go far enough and also made some huge and disgusting gaffes in their work. you should check it out, even if you might disagree with some of the premises he puts forward, he's being very systematic about what he sees the problem as. i think in the west we put far too much of an accent on economics and finance as a completely independently analyzable subject, not in the least part because of the influence of marx, engels, and weber on sociological and anthropological studies, and often times we backport the issue of economics to previous eras when economics wasn't exactly distinguishable from legal or even religious issues in the farthest reaches back of human societies. if there was someone who could really give a thorough analysis of nihilistic tendencies - unfortunately nietzsche lost his mind before he could give a thorough genealogy or exegesis - if someone could give at least a solid (even fallacious) reasonable historiography or atlas of some sort on socio-psychological decline - i would be fucking happy. but i'm tard and too lazy to take on such a massive project. but i am starting to see whispers here and there of people starting to take the task seriously. it only took 100 years to realize once again that it was a problem. i think AI and automation might be the death knell, though. i think nietzsche was right we would indeed be well into the 21st century when we would have to truly face the problem of nihilism full-bore. when we have no reason to get out of bed, from what i have already seen of the opioid crisis and the state of most other cities around this country, unemployed angry useless and aggressively stupid and ungrateful people - not to be outright rude, here, as i'm including my own tendencies in this criticism - when we have no reason to get out of bed in the morning, i highly doubt the vast majority of us will.

The Lucifer Principle is a decent effort. Howard Bloom is a quack, mostly because he goes into so many different disciplines that some of his information becomes outdated or he might cherry pick because he lacks the full depth of knowledge that a specialist would have, but it works pretty well as a broad general view of things. He's definitely a brilliant man, but he's not in the business of writing gospel, so take some salt with.

You know, this is something I've been thinking about, and some other posters in the thread have touched on this already, but a LOT of the left's positions seem arrived at based on the basic idea of "What is the intuitive right answer? We must go with the opposite of that." Like... it's taking the basic idea of "The obvious answer is obviously wrong" and applying it to everything. All policy must be wildly overcomplicated. Got a problem with islamic terrorism from certain arab countries? Well, we have to stop and frisk every white old lady then. Can't do the obvious thing that makes sense, after all.

It just seems like the philosophy is based on outsmarting yourself. Overcomplicating everything. With a constant "everything of value is evil and stolen" narrative running in the background.

I'm curious if anybody had the archive/screenshot of his tweet that he deleted that Metokur kept making fun of him for. The twitter is deleted now
that yanger who kept deleting tweets was prince hubris AKA shawn mccaffrey. this guy (on the left):

he ruined his life back in 2016 by saying edgy racist shit at hwndu with his real face out there and many msm journos watching. he got super assmad about how 'the alt-right ruined his life' instead of taking responsibility for his own dumb choices. he went on to become what right twitter calls an 'ironybro,' basically a disaffected maga or alt-right person who no longer believes in anything and mocks others to compensate for their own insecurities.

so, naturally, it makes total sense that he also allegedly uses a penis pump:

now he is a vocal proponent of yang on twitter, having retreated back into unironic leftism from whence he came. before trump he was a bernout. the nature of the ironybro is that he has no real principles and simply tries to mock his way out of everything until he is forced to justify himself and crumbles.
I know this is an old thread, but since someone had asked for the Metokur vs. Shawny tweets, here they are in all their glory:

>Why don’t you stick to your gimmick of making fun of mentally ill people?
>That’s exactly what I’m doing.

There’s walking into something. Then there’s putting on a blindfold and charging head first into a minefield filled with pissed off rattlesnakes.
