I remember that RuPaul--arguably the most successful drag queen in modern mainstream media--got into trouble with the LGBT crowd because a segment in his show had the phrase "You've got SheMail!" when the contestants in his drag race show would receive a video message from him, and which folks found offensive. RuPaul defended the phrase, stating that it referred to Transvestites (Crossdressers) and not Transsexuals/Transgenders. Eventually, they removed the phrase with a less offensive equivalent lingo.

It's funny how RuPaul, one of the OG successful gay men who brought the performance art of drag queens into the cultural eye (and arguably, more LGBT mainstream appeal), would be cancelled as being supposedly transphobic with his terms. It really shows how far these definitions have come, how people in the LGBT community would cannibalize each other for the smallest infractions, and how people these days are so different and detached to what Pride was then--self aware to so easy to be hurt.

Can't even exist as a gay man or a lesbian woman these days without being harped as "BUT WHAT IF YOU'RE ACTUALLY TRANSGENDER AND YOU WANT TO BE THE OPPOSITE SEX?"

It erases those things that old gay men and lesbian women were advocating for that "Gays and Lesbians are just like everyone else" with the narrative that "If you don't fit into your gender roles, you MUST be trans!"
