I often just search their post history by the search bar, you can usually figure out why they put their profile to private.

If the posts people make aren't private, and the ratings they give and receive aren't private, then the profiles that allow you to see those posts and ratings by user shouldn't be either.

Maybe include an option that lets people turn off posting on their profiles though if they don't want that.
