I'll never understand Vlog Culture.

For three reasons:
Branding A unique avatar can add style while someone's real mug is boring. It's done for the same reason McDonald's has a clown for a mascot.
Safety. Especially concerning politics. Avatars are used to keep the content creator anonymity intact. Any one who is critical of social
justice can face some nasty consequences for speaking out.
The final reason is editing. I've noticed some folks who live record tend to have cut jumping in their videos. To prevent this it better to have a backdrop then one actual face.
