Oh man. Cyberpunk 2078 anyone?
No way this is ever going to live up to the first game ...and Tim Schafer made it so that one was literally a day away from being some strange thing we found on thepiratebay a decade down the line.
Tim's ideas have been getting shitter too. How many years has it been since double fine made a good game? Were any of those directed by him?

I was gonna bitch about the lighting looking really weird but after seeing that's only in the prerendered trailer I'm cautiously optimistic. I'd rather it get pushed back a dozen times and be good at launch than do the EA patching garbage that's in vogue right now.

Psychonauts is a pretty great game, but it has also been a decade and half since it was released. Most of the people who had a hand in what made it so good have more than likely left. And considering what I've heard about Tim and his involvement with the games along with reception to his more recent ventures, I can't really say whether this will be good or not.

All that being said though, what is shown does look promising.

The ideas and creativity made it good, platforming was a stinker and at its core it was a 3d action platformer. Fucking ladders... If they repeat it with the sequel, having interesting things and environments with crap gameplay, then people will just watch it on youtube or twitch instead of slogging through bullshit to see what else there is.

Tim Schafer was one of the people behind Fig, a different kickstarter for games. Looking at it now it doesn't seem to have been updated in a while, it still says you can invest in PoE2: Deadfire

what wrong with tim shlafer? Everyone bash him.. what happened?
What happened? Easy! It turned out that Bobby Kotick was right:

Tim Schafer. The guy comes out and says I'm a prick. I've never met him in my life -- I've never had anything to do with him.

I never had any involvement in the Vivendi project that they were doing, Brütal Legend, other than I was in one meeting where the guys looked at it and said, 'He's late, he's missed every milestone, he's overspent the budget and it doesn't seem like a good game. We're going to cancel it.'

And do you know what? That seemed like a sensible thing to do. And it turns out, he was late, he missed every milestone, the game was not a particularly good game.

@Smaug's Smokey Hole psychonaut as a platformer weren't that bad actually. I saw far worst game that put everything in graphic nothing in gameplay; 'cough cough' Alice madness return 'cough'
Alice Madness Returns was way later in 2011(I assume you're mixing it up with the original). Psychonauts played somewhat similar to and had similar problems to games like the original Alice or FAKK2, both released years earlier(or Heretic 2, Outcast etc). What they have in common was that PC devs tried to make 3rd person console like games and they couldn't really figure it out, many games played like the old Quake 3rd view where movement was digital(keyboard) and the way the character was facing was controlled with the mouse, no acceleration or delays. Like a first person shooter but in 3rd person. Turns out they were.

Psychonauts wasn't nearly as bad as those but the PC stripes of a PC tiger won't wash away, it had PC roots and they were showing. That said, I really, really liked the game, iirc the game had been delayed multiple times already and it would have fared better one or two years earlier. It's remembered for a reason and it wasn't that a lot of the platforming or action was great. The game had combat in some form, right? I don't remember, it was a long time ago, it's all the other things that have stuck with me. It will be hard to reprise the surprise of the original game, like making a sequel to a cult classic.

Remember when this was supposed to come out in 2018? lol

That said, huge fan of the first game and I hope this one eventually comes out and delivers.

He turned out to be a wokescold asshole, once Gamergate and all that shit went down Tim went on with the "muh soggy knees" narrative instead of doing the smart thing and maybe just staying the fuck out of it, because what did it have to do with him anyway?

It was pretty heartbreaking as someone that used to be a huge fan of this guy, but I still like his games though, he's a talented asshole, it is what it is, sometimes it happens.

Nah, it wasn't bad gameplay wise, just middle of the road, a standard platformer, but nothing really bad.

It was the game's style that made it great but an added plus is by 2005 platformers had started to really dry up, so even the standard platformer gameplay felt more fresh than it might have otherwise.

What happened? Easy! It turned out that Bobby Kotick was right:
Nah, Kotick was wrong, Brutal Legend was flawed but I'm glad it still came out, it would have been incredibly shitty had the game never seen the light of day at all.

Brutal Legend was hot trash starring Jack Black.
It was pretty bad gameplay wise, but the art direction was so cool looking and the story and characters were entertaining so it was worth putting up with to see the game to completion at least once.

Driving your heavy metal hot rod around and gawking at the world while listening to music was fun, but that weird RTS style gameplay was never much fun at all, tolerable at best and tedious at worst, I have no idea why it wasn't the "heavy metal Zelda" it appeared to be at first and instead had that weird RTS gameplay, it's got to be one of the biggest wastes of potential in gaming, but I'm still glad we got what we got instead of nothing at all.

I'm already seeing a good bit of, "It doesn't look the same it's not going to be the same."

Well no shit it isn't. This is a sequel to a non-Triple A game made >15 years after the first with modern technology for systems far more advanced than the PS2.

Anyway, probably one of the most creative games ever.
