Entirely likely, both ways; crazy people are more likely to dye their hair and certain types of hair dye can probably really mess you up. The lady who cut my hair for years (before dying of cancer in her early 50's) was convinced Liz Taylor getting her hair dyed every two weeks for decades contributed to her brain tumor and other health problems.

Okay, this one punched me right in the feels. She's just looking for a man to love her and make her feel safe. She's biologically male, reasonably huge and strong, and the transition process seems to have left her bereft, lonely and powerless to feel safe. She's built like a brick shit house, could likely crush billiard ball with those hands, and she wants a man to make her feel safe.

This is not a face that is going to inspire a strong masculine dude to feel the urge to love or protect. Or body. Or hair color. Or hands. She's so fucked.

I'm beginning to understand Cathy Brennan more and more each day. I pretty much live and let live and if you have a dick the length of my arm and want to call yourself a woman, as long as you pay your taxes, keep your yard mowed, use your turn signals and generally don't be a nuisance, I'm not gonna give you a second look. Pretty much my philosophy for all human beings really.

But is this human being really a man trapped in a woman's body? Or is Brennan right and these kids have such a limited view of what masculinity or femininity mean that simply being a tomboy or an effeminate man has made them believe that very restrictive gender roles means they must change their sex to be able to express themselves properly. Could this just be a gay dude into hair dye and bad pop who thinks that men, homosexual or otherwise, cannot possibly be into such things and therefore he must really be female? Trying to be female hasn't made this kid happy - and he will transition worse than Fire or Greta. He won't ever be a demure waif a man wants to scoop up and rescue. Wanting to be female is going to work out about as well for him had he decided to become a turtle or large municipal library.

You bring up a very interesting point, Tumblr-lurking trans dramacows has led me to believe these kids have such a limited view of what masculinity and feminity mean, combined with a major ego problem/attentio-craving, and the perfect shield in the form of "muh oppreshun". I'm not quite sure if this Kesha fan here constitutes being a lolcow per se... I mean, the videos are cringey, but I sort of feel bad, wanting to be protected, but those looks do not help.

You've described half the women on Plenty of Fish. They want to be picked up and manhandled and curl up on a guy's lap like a little cat, but they've got the proportions of a refrigerator. Outside of NFL players and the guys Brock Lesnar trains with for UFC fights, there really aren't a lot of guys out there that can make them feel like the dainty little flower they think they are.

I'd wager it's it's more a trend than anything else. People are more willing to say they're gay, bi or poly and it's no longer seen as being shameful or a stigma of sorts at least in most places of the world.

This means you have a gay boy who's feels femme wants to look pretty and all that stuff in a hyper girly way but is looked down on because frankly it's weird. People are more open to being trans, the public is more accepting of them in the sense that they won't necessarily get rocks thrown at them so they decide that they too are a woman and do the bare minimum needed to transition because you no longer need female parts to be a woman now thanks to Tumblr. All it takes is dressing in girly clothes, dying your hair and speaking and acting like a drag queen.

Problem is, there's more to being an actual transgender person than that. And this guy unfortunately will simply never find that Prince Charming to sweep him off his feet and treat him like the girly girl that he feels he is. And that's even with surgery and hormones.

They used to be more common when it was hyper gay effeminite men who wanted to be women. Now it's middle aged men that are going that route. Hell the second Wachowski brother is now the second Wachowski sister and long time favorite comedian Eddie Izzard who for years has classified himself as a male lesbian admits that he's trans. Sign of the times. I can't figure it out any other way.

If this is the only way you can feel comfortable in your skin then go for it. Hell, some of the trans people that knew Phil came here to see what it was all about and they were totally cool. We laugh at Linkara but admit that Iron Liz seems to have her act together.

It's the new 'experimenting at college', only now instead of doing it when they're 18 to 22 years old and isolated from friends and family (where someone might call them on their shit) it's being lived out in their normal lives.
