So in the recent year Puerto Rico has become quite a thing in the US because of their debt and status problems. Besides the fact most of the population don't speak english, alot of them are migrating en masse to places like New York or Florida hoping to either land a job or live off welfare. One of the biggest Lolcows ADF, seems to regard it as the perfect cycling paradise which is far from the truth. Seen some people as questions about the place so thought I'd answer some of the things you guys wanted to ask.

Is Puerto Rico anglophone enough that you can get around with only English like you can in most parts of the US or does one need to know spanish

Sadly no, you can get away with it in San Juan,Isla Verde,Bayamon because they are the main hubs for tourists. However if you go to the deep into the island it's really rare to find someone that actually speaks or understands english.

Because of the political parties. Pretty much the reason for the undecisiveness is because it's a way of living for the parties. To explain, Puerto Rico has 3 main parties. New Progressive Party which are Pro-Statehood and Pro-English, Democratic Popular Party which wishes to stay the same yet have a bit more power and wishes for Spanish to stay the main language, and last you have the Puertorican Indepence Party which is one that wishes for Puerto Rico to be independent and not have anything to do with the us. As you can see each of them works on the basis of the island's status, if one day they said "Puerto Rico is now a state" all 3 parties would be fucked because that's the way they work, using those ideologies.

Plus we get to change the flag again, that would be kind of cool.

It's a mixed bag, some people love him because they believe in statehood and that he will bring better living for the island, others hate him for his comment on latinos and refused to watch or attend his rallies/pageants/etc.

Don't know what you mean with this question, if it's comparing Costa Rica to Puerto Rico I've never been there so I can't say much.

Pretty much alot of people think if they become a state they won't have to do as much work and won't be subjects to taxes and other things, it's quite stupid imo.
