For what it's worth for the OP, anthropologically and culturally speaking, women are actually above men on the natural hierarchy, and arguably "superior" (from a purely natural perspective) by nature in both human and animals.
Men are essentially the 'protectors' against external threats, while women are the 'guardians' of the internal order, and are therefore more 'naturally' vital to civilization.
While historically men may been more dominant in the work place or external leadership positions, women have more or less universally been the 'natural' and 'indirect' leaders of men but more through influence, rather than "force".
The notion of "women having been forced into the kitchen" is more of a modern, corporate media myth than anything else.
Even back in the Bible era this was primarily the natural order of things; for example the verse in the Bible asking wives to be submissive to their husbands did not actually mean they would be "controlld" by them, it was actually requesting women not to be too overbearing or nagging toward their husbands.
Likewise in Genesis when it describes men "ruling" over women, this was actually a negative consequence of the fall of man, rather than the natural order of things; in fact the actual text implies that Eve was created to "help keep Adam in line", since if a man is left alone he is more likely to become immoral (which is why the Serpent corrupted Eve first, because he knew if he could get to Eve, then Eve could get to Adam).
In fact the word husband and "husbandry" (taming a wild stallion) are related, as women do the natural mate selecting, not men as in PUA mythology and the like.
If anything modern, corporate America is far more 'controlling' of women than most of societies natural family and cultural structures; since rather than being the master of her own home and children, and having a husband who actually enjoys doing her bidding (a la June Cleaver), you now have women taking orders from white male executives, and slaving 50 hours a week just to help increase the profits for some philandering Saudi rich kid shareholder who grabs women by the pussy.
In fact most of the modern "2nd wave feminism" rubbish about empowerment through slaving for white-male corporate execs was just astroturfed by corporate PR, since after WII they realized how much more they could maximize their profits if they could encourage more women to enter the corporate workforce full time.
