I’m watching NHK nightly news right now. They are just now getting around to explaining QAnon to the Japanese audience. I’m sitting here laughing and reassuring my family that no, I do not really believe this, and that no one sane believes any of it. But they’re presenting it with a straight face “Trump supporters believe this!”
But here’s the thing. NHK gets their pre-translated American news straight from CNN, saving NHK cash on foreign correspondents. It also allows CNN to control the narrative of what’s going on in America. And I’m sure by now that most of us are aware that CNN is basically the Democratic Party’s mouthpiece.
So what’s the point of reporting on QAnon to a foreign audience now? It certainly wasn’t important enough before. Why would it be? There’s no real reason to tell a foreign audience about a lunatic fringe group in your country that has no practical power and a nonsense ideology. That would be like NHK going on American tv and telling you about Uyoku Dantai as if they’re a serious threat, instead of the crackpots they are.
But here we are. The overseas audience had just been informed by what amounts to the propaganda arm of the ruling party that all Trump supporters (coincidentally their ideological enemies) are QAnons and that all QAnons are crazy.
Were I a suspicious man, I would suspect that something ugly is in the works.
