Question about Earthbound anti-piracy failsafes - I can't find shit online about if the last failsafe has been cracked

So, I bought a Earthbound Reproduction cart on Ebay because I'm too cheap to even think about paying over $100 for an official copy. I was just wanting to see if any of you knew if the last anti-piracy Fail safe had been solved. TBH if it hasn't then it won't bother me, I'll just play up to Giygas and just count that as beating the game. Does anyone know?

(Sorry if this doesn't belong here)

I'm fairly sure ROMs have been anti-piracy free for a good while now (I was able to complete it fully on ZSNES nearly 15 years ago), so a Repro cart should be just fine.

Just to add on to that

"This copy protection targets bootleg cartridges and cartridge copiers. ROMs are NOT affected, unless you’re using a crappy emulator or playing a ROM someone hacked as a prank."

There's also the layer of anti piracy protection that adds more random enemies that would be a clear giveaway if you were affected. I don't think a modern reproduction cart would be affected, but if I was gonna go down that route I'd just buy an everdrive and save myself the hassle.

I got my cart a few days ago and after playing for the first couple hours as well as researching via youtube. I can say that the fail safes are not being triggered, so I'm relieved. I think I'm going to start getting reproductions of the more expensive NES and SNES games.

I went to a game store and saw an earthbound repo cart a few days ago and I asked the clerk the same question and he was like "I've never heard of the anti piracy features"

This is good to know. I bought a repro Earthbound cart from here.

It's $13.88, and looks just like in the pics. Seems to work excellent. I'm probably halfway through playing it already.

You can see in the pictures that the little screws that hold the cart together are just for looks and are molded in the plastic. It just snaps together. Pretty sturdy though and it takes some effort to open. I can pop mine apart and post pics of the insides if anyone is interested.

I actually own the original earthbound (and accompanying guide book) from when I was a kid, but I'd be interested in looking into some of these repro carts to keep it in better condition. Are there any games currently that still have issues with repro carts?

@Yaks Honestly man, if you just Ebay search -Insert game Title and system- reproduction on ebay (Ex. Earthbound SNES reproduction| FF7 NES reproduction| Mother 3 GBA English translation reproduction), you should be fine. Just make sure to check feed back and talk to the seller about the repro your after, hell if you ask before hand you can get a specific color cartridge shell for your game. I had a chance to get a gold cart version of Secret of Mana 2 (Seiken Densetsu 3 fan translation, never officially released in the states or Europe) but the Seller was impatient with my reply and I got a plain gray cart. You can get some neat stuff and Japan only games from a seller named Nevian on Ebay, he is based in the states and he has certain guide lines (Won't destroy a game to make your repro, won't repro a game that was released in the states.).
