The Rodrigues family (Jill, really) has become a personal hyper focus of mine. I can’t tell why I’m so interested in their trainwreck of a life, but I’m definitely in for the ride.

I’ll break out the hummingbird juice when a thread is made on those two narcissists.

The Rods are my fave fundies by a mile because they just defy logic and have absolutely no redeeming qualities. If I didn't know better, I'd say they were a piece of performance art satirizing the evangelical right.

So that house they grifted in West Virginia, was that due to the car accident that occurred there? I remember some family member had a horrific accident in the state that involved a minivan, a bunch of kids and Jill managed to make it all about her even though I don’t think she was involved in it at all.

Or maybe the car accident occurred because they were visiting the family in WV at their house?

I could just see some awful car accident occurring, a pile of Christians with emaciated kids show up for prayer circles and to live in the hospital waiting rooms instead of the RV. Some kind, naive local church people hear about this tragic Christian family’s accident and these frail children living in an RV and before you know it the grifters have a new house being fixed up for them and some congregations to milk for all they can.

I’d love to know if they fled the state only because CPS was onto their BS or the locals helping them out realized the situation. (I’d bet the locals that helped them into a free house were also the ones that got CPS investigating once they cottoned on to these assholes. There’s no way they’d flee if the freebies were still flowing from kind hearted locals.)

Social media is kind of bad for them since it advertises their long running grift and child abuse.

Iirc that's a house Jill's parents bought for them, but a lot of the documentation was on r/FundieSnark and they went private. Jill visits the paraplegic sister about once a year and always mentions her loss of legs. Sister seems to have adapted to wheelchair life and is just being a lowkey fundie.

The Fundie Wiki says Amy's last kid was born in June 2014, and the Facebook page that Jill set up for Amy's legs says the accident was on April 3rd, 2015. I've only recently become obsessed with the Rodrigueses myself, though, so I'm not sure how accurate this is.

Much of the fundie fruitful bullshit comes from the religious pre-birth control world, which has been around forever as opposed to the post-birthcontrol world which is only about fifty years old or so. Religious folks are already usually resistant to change and love to stick to the traditional ways.

In ye olden times if you wanted to have sex (that didn't involved syphilis and prostitute) you had to get married. Having sex with your wife meant pregnancies, lots of them. Sometime after kid four or six the wife (who had to take care of all childcare duties) might try to draw a line in the sand. NO MORE. She cannot possible care and feed for yet another child. I think of people in my grandparents and great-grandparents generations that did not have access to BC. The rural ares seemed to stop at four or five and the city areas at two which makes sense given the home sizes. But if the pregnancies stopped that meant their sex lives slowed down too. I remember over hearing the older women chatting as a kid, stuff that didn't make sense to me back then but now it was obvious that once the wife had the maximum number of kids she could handle she finally had to get assertive about things in the bedroom. There were stories about a wife finally unloading on a husband because when she became pregnant with very unwanted baby #5 the husband got angry with her. After that, she never had any qualms about telling him to fuck off.

Decent husbands could understand this, some even made the decisions themselves because money was tight and hungry, poorly clothed kids are heartbreaking, so they realized they would have to adhere to "safe times" to have sex during the month. But how is some asshole who doesn't really give a fuck how many kids his wife has to care for or his kids living conditions get around this?

The religious fundies offered a solution to the wife's nonsense about "less sex because another kid will kill me" by insisting that every child was a gift from god and it is her duty to have as many as possible. Some religions were really into this idea because it ensured constantly increasing numbers of adherents. If you have two faithful members who are fruitful that will get you like 100 additional tithe paying members within fifty years.

If the wife tried to avoid sex because she feared pregnancy she was now making god sad and angry, denying his gifts! So go ahead and cross that excuse right off the list honey. Now you only have 'headache" and "I just gave birth last week" as useable excuses for not wanting sex.

BC allowed most of the western world to keep having sex without the resulting dozen kids. However, smaller fundies sects and cults realized the only way the easiest way for their bizarre groups to grow and survive is by homegrowing most of their own members. You have a better chance at an adherent for life if you get him in the cradle. Faithful people raising lots of children to believe is a far easier way to get members than trying to attract grown adults. One only has to look at how the "no sex" religious cults like The Shakers died out quit rapidly after stopping the reproduction of their faithful members.

After she gave her catholic husband four kids, the last was the desired male heir so she went to a doctor in another state while “visiting her sister” and had an IUD installed. She had to forge his signature to authorize the IUD, it was pretty insane the lengths she went to so she didn’t have 13+ kids like her mother.

He had no clue and she just told him the last north was hard and must have messed up her guts. She didn’t have anymore kids and was much happier for it.
