Finland. A beautiful country with a rich culture, history, and language. However, what if Finland was a ruse? That's what some people online, including those in r/finlandConspiracy seem to think. The theory goes that Finland was actually created during the Cold War by Japan and the Soviet Union, that the space that Finland takes up is actually just empty ocean that the Japanese can fish in without environmental concerns (because, to quote these nutjobs enlightened ones who know the truth, "nobody's going to expect fishing regulations to be broken in a place where everyone thinks there's a landmass will they? ") Apparently, all Finnish cities are in Western Russia, Northern Estonia, and Eastern Sweden. The latter is also where Finland's capital, Helsinki, is according to these theorists in their stickied post detailing "all [we] need to know." (Archive) Nothing in this post seems to account for where Finnish history comes from.
And before you go, "This is clearly a joke, @MormonofID", the very first rule of the subreddit states:
The rest of the rules are as follows:
The third is pretty standard, nothing to really comment on.
The fourth is actually kind of refreshing, and also kind of makes sense. They want to expose this "conspiracy", so politics isn't really too much of a factor.
The fifth is rather interesting. Yes, the sort of thing it disallows makes sense, especially with Reddit cracking down on that sort of thing, but I do find it interesting that they do believe Finnish people exist. This is addressed within the sticky linked above.
This is weird logic, even by conspiracy theorist standards. It's strange that they outright admit there are people who genuinely think they live on a (supposedly) non-existant landmass. Ignoring their logic that the GPS coordinates and maps are faked (something that could be debunked with a boat), how on this blue-green, mostly harmless ball of rock could this facade be kept up for as long as these people claim? Regardless, this is a fascinating rabbit hole that I hope to go farther down.

So, this does appear to be genuine.1) No asking if this subreddit is serious:
Yes, this is for discussion about the Finland Conspiracy and how to debunk it. We are being serious, so stop asking.
The rest of the rules are as follows:
The second one is one I find quite interesting. They clearly are at least somewhat aware that this claim sounds ridiculous, but turn their nose up at conspiracy theories that are arguably just as ridiculous-sounding, like flat-earthers and chemtrails.2) No comparisons to flat-earthers or similar:
Comparing this completely legitimate fact to the ridiculous notion of a flat Earth simply discredits us and creates discourse. This also covers Reptilian Lizard people conspiracies and Chemtrail conspirators. We do not want to be lumped in with them, we have irrefutable evidence towards the Finland Conspiracy.
3) No asking questions already covered in the sticky!
I get that a lot of people coming here for the first time will have a lot of questions and that's fine. But please check the sticky at the top of the page first to see if it's already been covered. If it hasn't, then feel free to ask your question and once the answer is given I'll include it.
4) No heavy political discussion:
This subreddit has no political bias. All we care about is revealing the truth about Finland. As it currently stands no politicians have taken the stance of revealing Finland for the hoax it is, therefore none of them have our favour.
5) No racism/xenophobia:
We have nothing against Japanese or Finnish people (yes we believe that 'Finnish people' DO exist, read the sticky). It is no populaces fault for this conspiracy, it is rather the workings of their governments and the governments of the world as a whole, therefore they should be the only ones who garner our distrust.
The third is pretty standard, nothing to really comment on.

People from Finland genuinely believe they're from Finland. In reality they are from small towns on either the Eastern part of Sweden, the Western part of Russia, or the Northern part of Estonia. ...When you have a collective of a few million people identifying as Finnish then of course a culture will be built around it. I'm simply saying that that the landmass of Finland isn't actually there. It doesn't mean there can't be a culture or identity of being Finnish however.
