Maybe the not affording a house part. But american minimum wage is ridiculously low. And folk do seem to sneeze on people who work certain jobs which is douchey.
Compared to a couple other first world countries where taxes tend to be much higher anyways? compare it to literally everywhere else and americans come off as grossly overpaid but they whine more than third worlders where not even engineers make those same 9 bucks an hour a 15 yr old at Mcdonalds makes.

seriously, like how people flip out on fast food employees. Their still people man, and shit a job's a job. Don't expect someone who's there all day getting paid shit to not put pickles on your burger, it's not the end of the world. Is it bull shit- yeah a little but no need to flip out on them or look down on someone trying to make a legit paycheck
That's always pissed me off as well. Like yeah, it's annoying, but there's way bigger problems in the world. Society would probably be in a much better place if people were more empathetic towards people who are at least trying to do something with their lives.
The funny thing is, doing nonsense internet stuff for money like answering surveys pays less than minimum wage and is probably even less enjoyable than most minimum wage jobs when done for a long period of time.
There are jobs where you do fuckall everywhere, you just need to think and apply yourself to get there. Working for a year or three is terrible and soul shattering for a NEET, but then 40 years of being paid for watching videos and hanging out with buddies seems worth it.

I wouldn't say it's too far from the Hikikkomori lifestyle in Japan, but it has its own pathological flavor because of how reddit rewards you.
