That's a good point. I'd guess NEETdom in and of itself isn't uncommon these days and is even a sort of necessary purgatory phase in many young adults' lives. We have higher numbers of college/university graduates than before but fewer graduate/entry-level professional roles for them in the workforce. Kids fresh out of their education spend months, even years, applying for job after job and getting knocked back each time. You're told that you need experience to get a certain job, but how are you going to get that experience if no-one's going to employ you without it? Or you're told that you were a great candidate for the role, but sorry, there was a better one than you, nothing you can do about it, better luck next time. It's not too surprising that some people just decide, nope, there's no future out there waiting for them.Reddit has appropriated NEETs, I mean it was only matter of time but god damn they seem to just make being a jobless loser a "haha quirky I hate my family and took their money" kinda personality instead of treating it as a "well fuck nobody's hiring my ass and I can't afford college or training" kinda thing that it is.
But yeah, couldn't they come up with a better subculture than memes about pathetic wagecucks slaving away to support their lifestyle? Come on, man, become the next Dostoevsky or craft the manifesto for NEETist philosophy, or something.
