seriously, criticisms of heteronormativity and whiteness are crucial to furthering the LGBT crowd, or any minority. i understand that anger isn't always relatable, but it's hardly "cancer.' i have to question someone's understanding of systematic oppression when they're more willing to come down on anti-whiteness than whiteness.

white people uphold several axes of oppression, sexuality and gender included. privilege can taint ones' view of everything. the sort of entitlement white people feel extends to issues of gender, sex, and sexuality. it is my opinion, and the opinion of many social justice advocates, that all these things are intertwined. that's what intersectionality is all about. it's hard for me to be mad at OP, really. they have some learning to do.

I find that fairly astounding, considering that their armed forces are among the few people in the country with a pretty good chance of eating food on a regular basis, and that I assume the penalty for desertion is either death or being sent to some concentration camp even worse than being dead.

Makes you think, doesn't it? Being North Korean, they are no doubt already used to a life of great hardship and probably don't know a whole lot about countries where life is better than that. For them to desert from a position of relative comfort really says something about the state of the place. I wonder what motivates them to leave.

It's a conscript army, and I don't think their rations are much better than what's available to the general population, officers excluded. They suffer from extreme corruption in the officer corps, so by the time the military budget gets down to provisions for other ranks it's greatly reduced.

Trying to read the latter thread and holy fuck do they like throwing around the word reactionary. Aren't they just as 'reactionary' every time someone slightly to the right of them says or does something they disagree with?

Reactionaries are people who want to undo a social change, in this case their planned communist revolution, so no. The Russian communist party actually is reactionary, though, since it wants to restore Russia to how it was under the USSR. They'll probably autistically screech if you tell them that, but I've never tried.
