Raed 'R.A.E.D' Melki is a rapper, media producer, and filmmaker based out of Melbourne, Australia. He is the owner of TripplaH Productions and the director, producer, and lead actor of the feature-length still flowin the movie.
As he reveals in this interview, he was formerly a meth trafficker before he turned to music.
His media output is notably prolific and amazingly obtuse. If you have any idea what the fuck he's saying here, please clue me in:
His magnum opus, still flowin, opens with two minutes of dead silence, after which it transitions to title cards where he begs for money(!) and lists out his bank details(!!)
It then launches into an epic tale where newly unemployed rapper R.A.E.D must navigate a shadowy conspiracy between the music industry and the government in order to break out in the Melbourne rap scene.
Art imitates life, and R.A.E.D has indeed suffered legal difficulties in the pursuit of his craft. In 2001, Australian record executive Michael Gudinski filed a restraining order against Melki after he personally delivered a box to Gudinski's office. The contents of the box are unknown, but apparently merited a legal response. He claims the box contained CDs with videos that he describes as "entertaining," and "fucking goosebumps, man."
Also in 2001, he called in a fake bomb threat to the Crown Casino in Melbourne(!!!). The interview I linked earlier contains a fragment of that incident, where he staged a three-hour impromptu rap performance while being arrested, but the original from freenews.com.au seems to be missing.
Both of these events serve as the setup to still flowin, which sees R.A.E.D torture the Gudinski standin with tic-tacs (!!!!)
