I actually found this thread just to post this video.

I don't really follow Rags at all. I found his videos, listened to a split second, and dismissed it since he sounded like just another pedantic, wordy Youtuber skeptic who spends his time going after low-hanging fruit (sometimes lower than low, like literal children about console war fanboyism). His charisma is also about the equivalent of...about wet sand, maybe wet gravel.

But this video was recommend to me and, to be honest, I couldn't tell if the first few minutes of this was a joke. He (being the video poster) starts off by saying he's a girl now and wants to transition while shoving a trans flag on the screen, and I thought he was kidding because that has nothing to do with anything. Then he says he worked with two people who make furry porn to animate an intro, and then I stopped doubting this not being a joke. This video, as far as I watched, just restates the obvious anyways and I didn't care for Rags to begin with. But at least I now know the poster of the video looks like this:

If I were Rags, I would dedicate the inevitable EFAP episode to making fun of this dude's appearance. He looks like an uglier Jemaine Clement.

Eric has 27.7K subscribers on YouTube, and nearly 7K followers on Twitter. No one gives enough of a fuck about him to raid his stuff. It's so obvious he can't take any form of dissent.

Now does the guy who went on a one man holy crusade against a pre teen acting as if common sense knowledge about the power and capabilities of PC vs Xbox was some deep enlightening secret that only he knew, that he just had to educate the unwashed masses and totally wasn't shitting on some exceptional kid whose dad didn't want to shell out 900 bucks for a semi decent PC.

All of his PC video's always felt kind of bullshit to me, when I watched the video you mentioned ages ago I did like the video overall at the time, but even then when he said the only advantage to a consoles are the games bugged me. From what I remember he kind of treats it as a small point, which to me kind of seems a dumb, if you're taking his point literally that consoles have better games then does it really matter what price it is or how many games it has? The funny thing is that it's not a point in favor of any of them, all he really needed to point out was that every platform, PC included, has exclusives and that it's more down to personally preference than anything else.

As time has went on and I've thought more on his points I find some of them a bit more questionable, for example he's argued that gaming PC's are overall cheap than consoles when you factor in things like Steam sales or the amount of games available. The problem I have with that point is that he always seems to be arguing entirely against brand new current gen consoles and games. Thing is I'm pretty certain that current games for the most part don't really have that big of a price difference between console and PC. Now as for sales while the digital store fronts on consoles aren't that great, if you want them physically on the other hand there's plenty of good sales. You could also go used where not only could you get current games for even cheaper, you could get older seventh and even sixth gen consoles which have tonnes of games that are dirt cheap. Even on the PC front the cheapest games are old games, the thing about old games is that they're less demanding, they often can run on anything. So why spend money on gaming computer when even the cheapest hardware can many classics just fine? The point I'm getting at is arguing a gaming PC's cheaper is dumb, if you want cheaper games you're not going to buy a brand new $500+ computer for that, you're either just going to wait till prices drop on the current shit or go with older games and hardware. Also if you're willing to buy games and consoles new at full price you're probably not a average consumer, and thus likely not the type of person that Rags could ever convince to move over to PC.

One argument he's made that I find particularly stupid is that physical media on consoles isn't on par with PC because with it can run anything made for older OS's, where as that isn't a guarantee on consoles. Now granted in theory this is sort of true, pretty much anything made for a older version of Mac/Linux/Windows can be made run on the newest version, granted this is making the assumption that you have, and always will stick with the same series of OSes, but fair enough point. In reality however software made for older versions tend to get broken, whether it be things like the change from 16 bit architecture to 32 & 64 bits, or removal of various things, for example the removal of SecurDisc in Windows 10. This stuff will make a lot of the old copies of games you have worthless, or at the minimum a complete pain in the ass to deal with, which will likely force your hand to rebuy them at some point. Then there's the problem that nowadays most PC games don't really have actual physical copies, even those that do exist often just serve as a key for a digital copy on Steam or the like.

Last argument I want to highlight he's made that I want to address is that he's argued that PCs are just as user friendly as consoles, I completely disagree with that. The basics like connecting the cables and setting up accounts? Sure. However building it sure as shit isn't, it might not be that difficult, but it will take a good chunk of time and effort to do so. Furthermore PC OSes are way more complex and as a result are not very intuitive compared to mobile or console OSes, they might not be super difficult mind you but there's certainly more of a learning curve to them. Also if you want to get older games to work, mod games, or mess around with emulators you're certainly gonna need to learn how to edit and tweak things. Now granted I guess you argue that you could just choose not to do any of that and stick with stock standard games designed to work with your system of choice. But I'd argue if you're going to do that then why even bother with a gaming PC? A console can bring you the stock standard experience with no issues as is, if you aren't going to take advantage of being on a open platform then frankly a consoles going to be a better experience due to the simpler (or at minimum on par) interface, setup, and the ability to play any exclusive games on the platform.

Personally I like Rags' content and follow him on-and-off, so I might be biased but he seems to admit he's a degenerate and hasn't really done anything too cow-like other than the furry shit. I'd like to see further developments, but I honestly feel like there's little material to exploit.
