I don't think they really feel the need. With Doopie, it felt very much like a case of Chris basically trying to buy her friendship (and any benefits thereof), so it would have been kind of shitty if she'd said "I want nothing to do with you apart from this money thx." Planet Dolan is a group of people who Chris seems to like in their own right for some reason, so there's no real obligation behind the donation. They don't have to indulge him, he's just a fan showing his appreciation.

See, I would consider buying Chris' books, because the guy has given me years of entertainment, and technically producing his comics is working for his donations. But I'm not going to, because he is guaranteed to pull shit like this every single time. He never, ever learns. That's not how it works, Chris.
If you sell something, you have to physically have it. You can't have it made later, up to months later, given your shitty money management.
So I guess his Patreon is gonna get shut down within the week, because he hasn't made good on his sales.
Also this coming week, he loses his car.
Chris is going to be one pissy bitch.

P.S. What Chris is doing is technically fraud, as you can't sell a product you don't physically own. That's called "back ordering" and you have to be explicit about it.
If the site starts getting complaints, Chris could be in some serious trouble.

No, patreon is not a platform for selling merchandise. You can't sell stuff through patreon. What happens is that you pledge money to people, and they nominally mention that you might get something in return.

If they don't send anything out, you can't complain to patreon that you didn't receive your merchandise because there was no obligation to send anything out to begin with. Your only option, both legally and according to patreon's rules, is to just stop giving them money in the future.

Though as noted above, Chris is sending out comics. People have posted about it. He's just patchy and lazy, and if he misses deadlines, meh, who gives a shit? Chris surely doesn't. (And honestly, most of his patrons probably don't either. I suspect most of them take his excuses at face value; they probably signed up to give to Chris' patreon and forget about it until the shit shows up in the mail, or doesn't, like this month.)
