Chris is really trying to get us to think that he's healthy or has started eating healthy. but he kinda fails when just this week he posted a picture of his gut bragging about his size to try to get Jessica back.
It occurs to me sometimes that were I to attempt to draw a comic in a short timeline, it would be differently bad or perhaps even objectively worse than Ricardo's.
Then I try and imagine doing something like that for 17+ years, and not even really thinking about what I could do better.
I don't know if I'm getting carried away with my empathy or some less charitable feeling, but Chris sucks. Sonichu should be better. I feel cheated in some way I can't quantify.
I'm not actually going to do MacHall justice because they were really creative and used varying art styles of "higher" and "lower" form really effectively, but they were the most normal of the webcomic weirdos that leapt to mind and you can see a progression, as one would expect:

Greg Dean is a guy who actually strikes me a lot as the kind of guy Chris might have been had he been "less mainstreamed." :

I've picked some strips that I think subtly indicate what I mean but I stumbled across them somewhat arbitrarily and realized it was working... all that said, I might be injecting a broader reading into them, the art example (from someone who didn't grow up aspiring to be an artist, stands.) At its heart, his comic is still mostly four frames for him to insert dialogue about his autistic interests, but he has noticeably gotten much better, and clearly has increased the effort and investment in his work as time has gone on. I wouldn't want Sonichu to not be Chris' weird interpretations of his life and fantasies, just better.

(as Dana is not as good at clearly stamping his work, credit next strips to Dana Simpson who appears to have trooned out remarkably since I last came across him and is a now TRUE and HONEST transwoman with a husbando in some liberal shithole, indicating again that being remarkably exceptional is no excuse. Sidenote, it makes me sad that I used to be able to enjoy work from people with way different, even radical, politics from my own. Dana is now drawing a comic about an exceptional trans unicorn as far as I can tell from its site, literally.

I like how Chris decided to get around the fact he was using Amy Rose without permission by using a character from Pokemon without permission.

I like how he has to give us the unnecessary history of his Ditto. That Ditto has more background development than some of the more recent characters in his comics like the Hispanic lesbian.
Chris needs to save all this gold material for his own work.
There's nothing "cute" Chris could ever do, "mmm....powerglide, just like da astroglide, goes in smoothly"!
