So Amber's a youtube celebrity with a fanbase and because I pretty much only know her for being fat and lying repeatedly it's hard to imagine how she keeps that fandom. It also makes me wonder how many of her haters used to like her videos or look up to her, since there a clearly still people who do that.

An easy comparison I'd make is that she's an overweight, female Onision. Plenty of people know the person in question is a living joke and also a pretty terrible overall human but there still exist a blind following.

Another comparison off the top of my head is DSP. DSP is a Let's Play streamer who used to have a sizable fanbase that has dwindled down to a group of crazed whiteknights who feel the need to defend his stupidity.

Then there are DSP's Haters that include people like the Sons of Kojima and its leader Fred Fuchs. The thing about Fuchs is that he's admitted he used to enjoy DSP's content years ago before he became a detractor. So that goes back to the part of my original paragraph wondering if that's the case for Amber's scenario.

There seems to be a pattern among the more e-Famous type of lolcows at the very least.

Amberlynn's trajectory on YouTube has always been a mystery to me.

Sometime in 2016 - prime Destiny era - her WHAT A 500 POUND GIRL EATS IN A DAY!!! video got pushed hard by the recommendation algorithm. Prior to that, she seemed to have a very small but genuinely supportive fanbase who began following her when she was on Weight Watchers with Krystle.

Anyway the first AL thread sprung up on Guru Gossip in June 2016. It didn't get much traction because GG historically loves a pretty thin bitch to hate, but there was plenty of sperging and a-logging about calorie counting, how Destiny needed to be saved, etc.

Then a bunch of shit went down with AL. I think the first time the people in her comments really started turning on her was the dramz with her ex-gf-turned-bf. That's what got her on Peter Monn's radar anyway, and the cycle of hadurs getting the best of AL began.

The thing that put her further under the microscope was the lying about her ~back painz at work, and the iMessage screenshot drama that followed with her ex-coworker. THAT was a big boon for drama channels, which in turn, served another drama-loving demographic to AL on a platter.

Now her viewers were: a few originals from her Krystle days (always identified by "girl I love you but..." comments), the HADURS, people who were recommended that 500 POUND GIRL video, and those who found her through drama channels.

Destiny cheating on and breaking up with her was the cherry on top of all that.

Anyway, I doubt AL will be able to sustain the crowd she currently has for much longer. Maybe if she becomes bed bound the chunk of car crash watchers will increase, but until she puts out something with substance, bitches are just gonna fixate on the most minute details of her Q&A/sit down videos.

I actually found her via Trisha Paytas' side channel on the "Related Channels" recommendation. I was looking for more train wrecks to waste time on, AL did not disappoint.

Her fanbase was from the Krystle days and weight loss, but the sudden popularity came from the clickbaiting (500lb girl does ____), her mukbangs, and the ASMR videos. Actually, a lot of her white knights come from her ASMR if you read the older comments. They were drawn to her relatable personality, allegedly.

Her video "confessing things I've lied about" was posted on fph maybe a year ago, I think she got a lot of hadur traffic from that.

First vid I saw was the spicy noodle challenge. I thought it was satire for this humongous woman to do any sort of eating challenge (with the wrong kind of noodles), while saying "healthy life" drinking a 40 oz cup of diet dr. Pepper. I figured she was in on the joke. When I realized she was serious her videos became a cringefest guilty pleasure.

Okay so I decided to do a little refurbishing of this thread, it's now just for random stuff that pops into your head questioning something about Amber and her saga and the people around her. It keeps with the themes present in my OP for one, and for another it fills out a thread type we have in other lolcow cult boards (CWC has one, DSP has one now too)

After seeing the like-dislike ratio on the new ASMR Magazine flipping vid I wondered "At what point will Amber disable the ratings bar to protect her ego"

The AL disabling comments and ratings is coming, but according to history there is one more piece of AL style drama to drop and I predict it will fall during her “vlog for every day December”.

I have been watching since the beginning. I used to be a supporter. I had 125lbs to lose when I met AL 4 years ago. I lost them and I guess she found them. I hate to label myself as this, but I kind of think of myself as an AL anthropologist now. I have been fascinated by her personality and it’s patterns. Anyway, last year around this time she started doing mostly sit down videos, but she is a month early. I predict that something is coming big enough for her to use as an excuse to “take a break” during her everyday of December and disable comments. She doesn’t have the stamina for 30 days of anything.

In a recent video, I remember AL basically blamed Destiny on her recent/most current weight gain. She said something to the effect of "I got my heart broke this year so I started shoveling in the food".

Honestly, how dare she blame Destiny/heartbreak. If anything, she should blame her deciding she was a huuuuge famous YouChube star who didn't need no real job and could just sit at home on her ass (and take care of her animals, LOL) and think that destiny would be happy with that type of life.

As Sped-y as Destiny comes off, she is just 21/22 years old and wants to have a more active life rather than being a care taker for a 500lb woman who doesn't even want to work/do housework or anything of the sort.

AL wants to sit around in her own filth and misery and make excuses for not getting better and in fact getting worse and worse. I could see why Destiny left her ass.

Honestly, when your current relationship is based on your partner pitying you something is fucking wrong with your life. And AL knows her life is fucked up. She doesn't care. She wants to die.

I don't think she actually wants to die. I think she thinks nothing bad will ever happen to her and the ~hadurz~ are just being mean by telling her to grow the fuck up and lose weight.
