Ratchet & Clank - The games, not the movie based on the games, moreso the game based on the movie based on the games

The Gaming Brit made a fascinating video talking about the Ratchet remake and why he considers it inferior, not only to the series but to the original game as well.

It's ungodly long at 1 hour 20 minutes, but this guy really knows his stuff and it doesn't come off as that autistic either (mostly anyway).

He's a bit of a contrarian. One of the things I thought to myself about him was "I bet he'd suck Deadlock's dick just to be controversial.” Low and behold:

Tools of Destruction was my first game, i absolutely loved the dinosaur level, too bad you can't go back here after progressing further.

The rest of R&C games have really cool and badass sci-fi stuff like the armors and weapons, although they're all used by a midget furry.

I will still probably play every entry that comes out since 3D platformer are still in rather short supply these days, but I could tell Insomniac just didn’t give a fuck about the series by the time Mr. Zurkon showed up for his third game in a row (he’s been in 5 overall and the movie as well).

I loved the 2nd and 3rd games a lot (1st one I loved a lot, but no strafe mechanic means that I won't really revisit it), especially the 3rd game, Dr. Nefarious is a hilarious villain when done right.

The PS3 games I liked a lot for the gameplay, but A Crack In Time had a very watered-down brand of comedy, which is a shame because it's got the best gameplay of the lot (The Clank time puzzles were amazing). Tools of Destruction was very nice, but I liked Up Your Arsenal more.

"Yoo-Hoo! Mr. Zurkon is coming to kill you!"

You're probably the only person I have ever seen hating on Mr. Zurkon. Dude is hilarious.

I loved the games growing up.

I started with Going Commando, so I probably feel the most nostalgia towards it.

The first game is also great though. It was a game that had a tried and true kind of story of two unlikely heroes working together to save the universe. It's kinda clunky in comparison to later games, but I never minded that.

Second game is a bit weaker in the story department IMO, but I love the refined mechanics and gunplay. To me it probably has the best balance between gun play and platforming

I used to adore Up Your Arsenal, but a recent playthrough made me realize the game is kinda rushed in a lot of aspects. There weren't as many levels and they were in general a lot more linear, there was far less enemy variety, and stuff rail grinding and space battles are completely absent.

I can't help but blame the online multiplayer for taking up time and resources that could have been spent on the actual game.

Still, the third game introduced Dr. Nefarious, who is just fun to watch.

Deadlocked was okay. Not really much to say about it.

Size Matters wasn't made by Insomniac and it shows.

The Future games were fun for the most part. But they don't really have the same feel as the PS2 games.

Haven't played any of the others, and from what I've seen of the game based on the movie, it looks awful.

Ratchet's design would look much better without the peasant cap.
Its an aviator hat you uncultured swine.

Graphically wise, its gorgeous.. but they.. I dont know.. Its like they had to dumb down the game for younger kids.

The future Saga (Tools of Destruction, A quest for booty, Crack in time, Into the Nexus) gave me a lot of fucking feels.

According to friends who've played the remake, the game plays decently, the big wrench to the balls is the bad writing

Exactly, they dumbed that down.

Ratchet and Clank had a lot of sexual jokes hidden in plain sigh with innuendos and double wordings. All gone or severely toned down. Those made the game hilarious!

Now the history is as simple as 1+1=2 for kids.

And that is one hell of ashame, but there's something far worse they could've done (at least gameplay-wise)

Completely removing Ratchet's arc was a bad idea.

I've been playing Quest for Booty & A Crack in Time. Loving the GTA-style radio in ACiT, glad they brought back ship sections as they added a lot of variety in Tools of Destruction and even Going Commando. QfB's okay, I've been replaying it for the 100% completion but even for a piece of glorified DLC it could've been better.

on the topic of ratchet and clank and insomniac, The trilogy goes like a rollercoaster. the first ride was the good first impression and the second ride was the major improvement and lot more fun when you get over your fears, the third one was meh, they used the same trick and it goes too quick. the same can apply the original spyro trilogy as well.
