There was a set of movies released back in the late 90s within a collection, implying that these were movies nobody should miss. Well, I'm twenty years older and curious as to whether they actually fit. I'm gonna mark the movies I did see here, and I'd like to see if people can give their opinions on this.

–Don Juan DeMarco

–The Madness of King George*
–Body of Evidence (1993/Madonna version)
–E La Nave Va

Literally only heard of the crying game because Chris bitched about it. Never heard of the rest.

I read the original Glengarry Glenn Ross, but I never saw the movie... A good load of these are on Netflix so I may as well get cracking

–Don Juan DeMarco - Never heard of
–Indochina - I think I saw a poster once.
–The Piano - Not seen
–Nobody's Fool* - Never heard of.
–The Madness of King George* - Not a bad film, I wouldn't consider it a must-see though.
–Body of Evidence (1993/Madonna version) - Not seen
–E La Nave Va - Never heard of.
–The House of the Spirits - Never heard of
–Damage (1992) - Not seen
–Bitter Moon - Not seen
–Glengarry Glenn Ross - Great cast, great dialogue, but it is kind of obvious that it was adapted from a play. The best seen is the Alec Baldwin one.
–The Crying Game - Not seen, keep meaning to. Some woman turns out to be a dude?
–Farewell My Concubine - Not seen.
–The Crossing Guard - Not seen.
–Matinee* - Not seen.
–Misery - Very good psychological horror, the film that basically made Kathy Bates a star.
–Naked in New York - Not seen
–Blue in the Face - Never heard of
–A Stranger Among Us - Not seen
–A Bronx Tale - Not seen
–Night and the City - I read the book but apparently it's completely different from the film.
–French Kiss - Not seen
–Moonlight and Valentino - Not seen
–The Getaway - Not seen
–Stealing Beauty - Seen, but that's only because Liy Tyler gets 'em out and it was the 90s.
–The Threepenny Opera* - Seen the play
–Schtonk! - What? Sounds filthy.
–Death and the Maiden - Not seen
–Sparrow - Never heard of
–The Man Without A Face* - Only head of it because The Simpsons made a joke about it.
–A Pure Formality - Never heard of

Of the very few I've seen, I wouldn't consider any of them to be all-time greats. I recommend Glengarry Glen Ross and Misery, Madness of George III is good if you like British costume dramas and/or early 19th century politics. Stealing Beauty is only worth seeing if you want to see Liv Tyler's nipples, although the pre-Internet practice of renting a movie just for a few seconds of nudity has now largely ended. As has the pre-Internet practice of renting a movie. What was I talking about again?

Literally the only one I've heard of was Matinee (which I haven't seen outside of the Mant movie within it). I know next to nothing about the others.

I quite liked Misery when I saw it, but that was many, many years ago. Not sure how it would hold up to a repeat viewing.

Saw French Kiss with some of my galpals back in college and thought it was sort of cute, if largely forgettable. The only part I really remember is Gerard Depardeaux's line "Bub? You know, like Bub Dylan?" I can't remember the context, something like he thought all American men were named Bob.

The Crying Game is on my Netflix to-watch list, and I might have seen Don Juan DeMarco (one of my buds in college really loved rom-coms, so I saw quite a few back in the day). I've heard of Body of Evidence, Glengarry Glenn Ross, A Bronx Tale, The Madness of King George, and The Piano, but couldn't tell you anything significant about them.

All in all, I can't say that any of these movies are must-sees, but those kinds of lists are largely subjective anyway, so.

A Bronx Tale is a great movie. Chazz Palminteri is the man. Great soundtrack, direction, characters...and this:
