Ehh... I'm apparently several years too late for the "Razor barely qualifies as lolcow" debate... but I just don't see it. He clearly has some lolcow tendencies, but they appear to be within the standard spectrum of social media clickwhores. I don't see him approaching the level of Owen Benjamin or Cenk or even Sargon.

I frequently disregard his autistic opinions on a range of subjects, but I see a lot more tism on the thread than I have watching him. Then again, I've never bothered to listen to any of his multi-hour streams or given a shit about his sex life.

The Michael Jackson stuff looks spergey but - having researched a bunch of unrelated corrupt prosecutions - it passed the smell test for "reasonable opinion". I mean... if MJ really had a massive stash of CP, then why didn't he even get charged with it? If you google that question, you'll find plenty of reputable articles explaining that prosecutors didn't even allege that CP was found - and this after a decade of FBI surveillance finding plenty of interest in adult porn but no CP activity online (a test I'm sure some in this thread wouldn't pass).

Ugh, his shitty take on Mechwarrior 5 is is up. For someone who is supposedly a HUGE BATTLETECH FAN OMG he is obsessively fixated on a couple of aspects of the franchise and really misunderstands the lore pretty fucking badly.

He is waaaaaaaaaaay too fixated on the "mechs are supposed to be old and technology has regressed." This isn't wholly inaccurate, but the Inner Sphere continued to build (if not design) new mechs throughout the entirety of the Succession Wars, contrary to what he claims in the video. The time period the game takes place, 3015, is right on the cusp of a technological resurgence for the Inner Sphere and lostech was starting to resurface. Then the Clans show up, and that's another thing he gets fucking wrong.

He acts like the design of the Timber Wolf (he calls it a Mad Cat like the freebirth faggot he is) is somehow indicative of technological regression...when it's just the artist's idea of what a giant stompy robot would maybe look like. This is doubly idiotic because this particular mech was designed by an isolated group of humans (the Clans) who are significantly more technologically advanced than the majority of the rest of humanity.

He also has some sort of hardon for the idea that mechs should function like slow, lumbering construction equipment when the actual descriptions of them in the lore is the exact opposite. For "evidence" he includes sound files from older video games. What this is really about is how he got his ass handed to him when he tried to play Mechwarrior Online, and he's been whining about it ever since.

Isn't the idea supposed to be that they can still produce them, but they're not as good as they used to be, that's why the clan mechs absolutely wreck the sphere mechs at the start of the invasion. That's exactly the idea, and I think you're right about why the mechs look the way they do.

Despite the Inner Sphere recovering some lostech in 3028 with the Helm Memory Core they still really weren't a match for the Clans. The only reason the Inner Sphere won was because the Clans are fucking idiots and didn't use their warships; they had massive fleets of FTL capable warships while the Inner Sphere couldn't even replace destroyed jumpships. To me this reeks of the company who designed the setting wanting to keep things going by not having a definitive ending, so they wrote in the Clans being stopped at Tukayyid, then rendering themselves impotent with infighting while the Inner Sphere reorganized. The lore goes on and on from there, and it gets really gay towards the end with the Word of Blake and their autistic jihad. For me the canon stops at the end of the FedCom Civil War.

There are some other things about his video that he gets really wrong, especially the economy in MW5. It's not nearly as bad as he makes it out to be. The only way I can see someone having the problems he mentions is if they are both bad at combat and then bad at basic math. Despite what he claims you don't have to travel to advance time in the game, and repairs are more expensive if you're in a combat zone due to scarcity of parts. You can also offset the amount of money you have to spend on repairs by taking out damage insurance, but I'm sure a moron like him didn't think it would be necessary and then cried when he saw the repair bill. It also doesn't cost as much as he claims to travel; it can get expensive depending on how far you're trying to go, but a trip costing 1 million (his example from the video) is a pretty long ass trip and there isn't a great reason to do that early on.

I say all that to say, this is really what he is all about, he's what I call a "superficial expert". He reads a little bit about some topic and then uses bombastic language full of strong but ill-informed opinions to make it seem like he knows what he's talking about when he really doesn't.

I like MW5 for the most part, especially with mods. Not to excuse the weak elements of the game, but the lead designer had been diagnosed with cancer and only given four months to live, which probably negatively affected development. Lucky for him it's now in remission. According to him they have lots of ideas for how to improve the game, but are either limited by resources or limited by Microsoft. For example the next PC patch is going to include an infantry add-on which Microsoft won't 't allow them to release in the Xbox version.

I'm not all that familiar with Battletech, having only read like an omnibus book and played a bit of Mechwarrior 2 and 3, but even I know how Clan OmniMechs were a big deal because they were just so much better than anything else.
