Reddit mods demand action; major subreddits shut down and call for site-wide anti-racism push - weird flex but okay

Damn, what a shame it would be if the /r/politics echo chamber got shut down even for a day, just such a shame indeed. I don't know how I could cope without being able to read 500 posts a day about how great Biden is and about how shitty Trump is.
Haven't been following it this cycle, but in 2016 /r/politics flipped from being pro-Bernie to pro-Hillary almost overnight.

When Bernie folks got pissed they invented "bernie-bros" to pretend it was misogyny and not a reaction to astroturfing.

I remember witnessing that change. It was completely inorganic, and go figure, shortly after it started leaking out that Hillary had paid some PR companies to "correct the record" online. I'm sure that a lot of the upvotes and downvotes on reddit were bots, automatically upvoting pro-Hillary comments and downvote bombing Trump or Bernie posts... Yet there were just so damn many individual posts and comments within the threads that completely shifted from being balls deep in Sanders campaign to arguing that Sanders was holding Hillary back etc. And even today they still accuse Sanders supporters of weighing down the DNC, they blame Sanders supporters for Hillary losing in 2016, and any comment which even comes close to pointing out that Biden is a creep is shouted down as either being a jilted Sanders supporter or a closeted Trump supporting racist bigot sexist super nazi.
I gave up on going to reddit in general for any real information some time ago, now I only go there to enjoy the bounty of their many, many lolcows.

apparently r/ireland got shut down as too many people were pointing out that there was a black-on-white stabbing.

More internet bullshit from /r/Ireland, who have shut down their own subreddit. Mods there think being internet jannies entitles them to special protections by corporate executives:

For the mods, the story begins when they were suffering sustained harassment for years. Getting doxxed, personal threats, that type of thing. However others allege one of the mods started it by telling users to kill themselves.
Rule #1 of being a content curator: Don't become the content yourself. /r/Ireland mods don't get that, which is why they suck everybody else into their internet bullshit.

These are the same exact mods who imposed a curfew on the subreddit during night-time hours for several weeks to ''curb right wing extremism''.
Context: Not a week after a media blitz began in the wake of George Floyd, where domestic news was looking under every rock and couch for examples of racism in Ireland, several racially diverse gangs video'd themselves performing genuine hate crimes against unsuspecting teenagers, using racially charged language like 'gut that feen' and stabbing the victim repeatedly.
Naturally, alt-right twitter ran with it, and the mods couldn't stomach such videos getting too much traction as it perforated the previous narrative.

All in all I don't have any sympathy for these mods. Notice how this shit never happens to mods that recuse themselves from politically charged internet drama? They want all the perks of being internet personalities (on fucking reddit of all places) and have used their powers to mistreat users that disagree with them, and now demand sympathy from the entire site when their enemies retaliate in exactly the way you'd expect. /r/Ireland is big in part because a lot of Irish people wanted to get away from another site which in years gone by was marred by narcs who thought the big number beside their usernames made them more important than everybody else. Now /r/Ireland mods are acting the same way, so hardly get to complain if their userbase jumps ship elsewhere

It's even in entertainment. The r/Nosleep mods have banned anything popular to "give others a chance", for example the Search and Rescue stories were too popular so anything involving forests as well as anything with "multiple stories" were banned.

There's one mod who organized a blackout because he didn't make enough money as an author and he felt narrators were stealing his potential earnings. Some of them tried to signal boost a witchhunt against CreepsMcPasta which accidentally doxxes his accuser.

They have to be trying to kill that site at this point.

Not only is he a janny, not only is he a propagandist, but he freely admits to having an account just for Reddit porn. This is what people are talking about when they say "we need a Judge Dredd but for Redditors".

I'm assuming people say that anyway.

This whole thing can be described with a very Irish saying.

Actually, the reddit admins were working behind the scenes to change the community, and they did so successfully. Reddit has never been truly organic and the admins controlled all the major subreddits from the shadows, either by actually owning the subs either straight out on admin accounts or administrator alt accounts, or banning users until the sub was under the control of someone amenable to their agenda.

They also work with/order moderators around on backchannels like Slack.

Reddit changed vote totals from being displayed not to prevent spam bots but to allow them to manipulate that, likely giving certain users higher vote ratings. What, you think their algorithm is neutral?

The most obvious and easy pointed to bias would be how the reddit admins would make excuses for and double standards for certain reddit drama users such as those on ShitRedditSays, which brought on intortus as a moderator after he got fired from reddit the company. He was already bullying people and subs SRS didn't like, and would ban users under trumped-up reasons that weren't even against reddit's TOS. Also, reddit barred The_Donald from the front page so people supposedly wouldn't see political shitposting on the front page but had no problem when it was Bernie spam the month before. Now it's all things like LateStageCapitalism and endless anti-Trump memes and stuff.

The internet has been gamed, what you see and hear is controlled, and the counterculture is controllled opposition.

Meh, it's been coming for awhile. Several boards and admins openly want to create a Resetera type system where any sort of right leaning thought or even basic disagreement is purged immediately with lifetime bans.

I'm kinda amazed all the porn boards are still up. It's probably only a matter of time until groups start going after those. Especially the anime/hentai ones since it seems anime is quickly becoming a battleground in the social justice wars.

Knowing reddit it'll just be the regular porn, and all the furry and kink stuff will be allowed, because with these kinds of people normal sex is degrading and gross and weird kink shit is liberating and "radical."

" The mods govern their individual subreddits like the fiefdoms of a medieval German king. What more do they need from the site to stop words they don't lik? "

That's precisely the problem, they don't like the internet equivalent to Cuius Regio, eius Religio, they want their rules imposed universally.
