Here's an interesting topic for you all. What remakes of movies do you prefer to the originals?

Mine is John Carpenter's the Thing

I came here to post The Thing, as well. Although The Fly is also superior to the original.

I'd say Evil Dead, but the 2013 movie was confirmed to be a sequel in disguise, and not a remake.

Night of the Living Dead, the one Tom Savini directed in 1990.

Wizard of Oz,its techniquely a remake of the older silent, B/W one right?

Sorta, there were actually 3 shitty Wizard of Oz Black and White movies.

They were all based off the same book but it literally took them 3 movies before they got it right

If we are counting Tv series, the 2003 He-man cartoon, I would call it a remake since it has all of the same characters, and has similar stories, and even PSA's at the end. This is a sequel but I also liked the live action Dolph Lungren movie. I know the 2003 series is really a reboot, but I'm really trying to think of remakes I like BETTER then the originals.

Oh Airplane, its a comedy remake of some serious TV movie.

Speaking of Airplane if we're counting TV series's. There's another Leslie Neilson movie that was based on a TV series.

The Crazies

I actually legitimately didn't know the Crazies was a remake. How was the Romero version compared to the 2010 version?

Refine the most preachy and over the top MILITARY IS BAD!!! GUBMENT IS BAD!!! themes from the latter romero dead movies, strip it of any nuance or subtlety, increase tedium and sermonising 200%, and replace zombies with titular "crazies". It still has good moments between the "subtle"political scenes but is still inferior to the remake which had the sense to remove the political themes.

'Zero Hour' is the film that Airplane used as plot basis. I don't know if I'd call it a remake though, as that wasn't really the intention.
Naked Gun was a film version of the series 'Police Squad'. Again, not sure if I'd call it a remake, as it had the same star and directors!
