Why do they always point out that it's "tactical corsets for women"? To distance them from the tactical corsets for men?

@Goddessoftheshire - I'm still trying to wrap my head around why tactical corsets are a bad thing... Then I see that fucking image. *sigh* At least Solid Snake can pull off something like this and make it look somewhat BUTCH.

It's almost renfaire time again, and I'm sure my girlfriend will want to drag me along. I figure if she wants to dress up as a cute pirate girl and buy some trinkets and check out musicians and such, that's cool. And she made her costume herself and did an amazing job of it actually. I don't dress up, but I get to eat some pretty good food, and it makes her happy so I don't mind. Was my first time going.

The problem is that her best friend has a boyfriend that will tag along. This dude is like a 5'6", 400lb, neckbearded pc gaming autist that sweats profusely, and complains about everything. Last year he was wanting to go as a sorcerer/wizard type thing. Had a big heavy hooded robe made. Then last minute changed his mind. Now he's a Sith lord. Hell, why not. He already thinks he's one in real life. Fuck it. All he does is put on a kylo ren looking mask with the robe. Then doesn't wear it because he can't breathe or complain, or eat those turkey drumsticks with it on.

Plus the robe is making him sweat horribly. And there are furries everywhere. There was one cosplay I saw, which was this girl dressed as David Bowie in Labyrinth. Absolutely dead-on, right down to the pants bulge. All in all, wasn't a bad place to hang out though.

Going to try to go on a different day than the Sith this time. Thank God he drove separately last time. I'd never have thought they'd allow star wars, but he insists that since it's "a long time ago in a galaxy far away", that the films take place during our medieval period and are therefore valid.

Fucking sperg.

The heavy breathing isn't part of the act...

Also, whenever I see that gimp pic of Phil I can't help but see this...

It's mostly white liberals who get offended by "Indian."

"Redskin" is an example of an actually offensive term.

POWERLEVEL MAXIMUM: I actually am, in addition to being guilty for many years of being a Ren Faire geek and actor (amd thank god, have not seen a pic of me yet) a card-carrying Cherokian. And so now I go to Pow-wow, which is the Redskins version of Ren Faire. We actually DO say "Indian" -- except for the spergy activist asshole who still say "native Americans" and we make fun of them. I am an Indian (among the rest of the genetic salad I am made of) and we don't care of you say it. You're welcome to, I have never heard a true Indian say they are a "Native American" or an "indigenous person". So Cherokian/Austrian was for many years 'Queen of the Gypsies" at the local Faire. I can swear in Hungarian and actually speak some Romany, true Disney gypsies, all of us. I haven't been to a Faire since 1994, I weep for the bullshit @Slowboat to China and @NobleGreyHorse suffered.

For what it's worth, there ARE some events that do offer an actual, historically accurate experience without going completely friggin' insane. But if you're actually interested in that kind of thing, you can go to a living history farm and get the same experience without having to bump into assholes dressed as Kylo Ren and queue for Port-a-Potties.

@Chandler Cats , bless. :) I am white as snow but was a guest at a pow-wow once. It was ... well, I can't speak to the historical accuracy, but it was a lot of fun! Good people, very welcoming. And at least three of them would've made a friggin' awesome Queen of the Gypsies.

Oddly, I can't remember any Queen of the Gypsies-type face characters at the fair I worked for. Most of it was Royal Court stuff. They did have an official prostitute, but she didn't actually do any prostituting. And there were very strict guidelines about not actually calling her a prostitute or a whore or anything. When historical accuracy meets the need to be family-friendly, the latter always wins.

Is there a connection between American Indians and Romani? I can sort of see it, but not being American I don't know.
Over here King/Queen of the Gypsies is a boxing title, which would probably liven up some of these fairs.
