I don't get the college degree thing. Any moron can pass an exam if they try hard enough. Doesn't make them smart. Hope that gender studies/black diaspora degree was a big waste of your parents money. I'm sure they are proud of your future career as head fry guy at Micky D's.

I'll admit I'm disappointed in this thread. When I saw "I'm a woman" I was hoping you wuz some salt about not being able to donate your squirtgasmns as sperm.

I don't understand how people with severe inheritable retardation and STDs can breed but you can't jack off into a cup unless you're a hunk.

It's not the wealthy who are going to be stuck with those diseases.

Wealthy parents can afford to be more discerning with their breeding material. For the lower classes itll have to be pot luck but sucks to be them lol.

This isn't too coherent as I've had my sleeping pills for the night but did want to mention that there's a great journal article that discusses a related paradox and gives a terrifying theory to explain things: OK, so we know telomeres shorten with age, except apparently in the gametes because old men have longer telomeres in their spermies than young guys. Traditionally this has been taken to indicate that they continue lengthening with age. This doesn't make sense for any evolutionary reason or biological reason generally, and certainly old men aren't renowned for having healthier offspring than young ones, but whatever, it's conceivable.

But the author in this article I refer to suggests that the evidence equally well supports that there are simply generational differences, i.e. these old guys would've had equally or almost equally long telomeres in their sperm decades ago, and it's a mistake to compare them to people two generations younger. To explain, imagine that there actually IS some diminution but it is very very minor. It wouldn't matter in somatic cells; I mean, old people don't have old babies; but even if there is only minor shortening from 20 to 70 in the gametes then, unlike the much more severe shortening in all other cells in the old man's body, that IS being passed on to his children ... i.e. accounting for the generational effects, or why the earlier explanation he tries to rebut has it that ostensibly they're growing not shrinking as expected.

The differences between the generations aren't huge but basically he calculates that after a certain number of generations of older people having kids as we are now, I can't remember but I think 1000 or so, we'll be completely incapable of reproducing. This number can worsen drastically of course if markedly older people become fathers today, but even 35 year olds having kids might be causing the problems discussed here.
So within a few hundred generations, humans will be able to reproduce only through artificial methods? Terrifying.

Pretty obvious none of you ever worked on a dairy farm. The vet used to come by with a catalog of the best bulls and ol' man Daniels would page through and pick the best bulls for his herd. Vet would come back next week with frozen sperm and shove it up the cow coochie. Nowdays, it's online.

I'm surprised some enterprising outfit hasn't done the same so that a wannabe mommy can browse pages of chads to find the right sire sperm. Oh wait... I think they DO have that! It's called Tinder.

Sperm doesn't age as badly as eggs do so long as you eat right and stay active.

With sperm a man can take care of them to ensure they stay virile well past middle age, for women? You hit the wall and that's it. There's a finite amount of eggs and they don't get any better with age.

I'm a woman but my friend just applied to be a sperm donor and got rejected. Hurt his ego badly.
Given the number of autists that have been produced by women going to sperm banks, perhaps he should be glad that club won't have him as a member.

Also, won't life expectancy fall in future generations? Since the telomeres are getting shorter. Isn't any way to "edit" the sperm to return it to its previous "genetic potency"?
Gene editing and more research on telomeres. Naked mole rats are being researched as they have better safe guards, but I can't remember what it was specifically.

Blame centuries of having women married off and having babies before they were 19 years old while the age of men was never taken into consideration . It caused the female reproductive system to evolve to peak at as young an age as possible.

And no thats not just a middle east thing, Europe, Asia and the new world practiced it up until the late 19th century

The diffrences in sperm vs egg viability were established long before humans ever even became a species and the onset of menopause seems to have developed sometime when mammals first became a thing. And no, men are not magical either- their fertility decreases with age, the quality of their sperm decreases with time, and you really shouldn't be having kids after your mid 30s regardless of your sex. You're spouting a bunch of junk popscience.
