I don't think much of the newer games made with the RE Engine. Maybe this one being "the most gruesome yet", can change all of that. Although I cannot say I'm a big lover of the first person viewpoint.

RE7 was cool but I honestly didn't care about the gameplay-story integration at large. It felt like they were trying too hard to balance the horror and the action, and the horror really suffers when you're told your character is effectively immortal and he starts spouting off one liners.

That being said, experimentation is always welcome, and if 8 can build on 7 and make it a better horror experience then I'm all for it. Certainly sounds better than 5 and 6, which largely dropped 4's charm and just became boring action games.

At this point I think they should have a go at porting Outbreak Files 1 & 2 to modern systems. It suffered from being released when the PS2 didn't really have dedicated multiplayer like Xbox did, but now that Multiplayer's a staple of gaming it has a better chance of becoming a success.

At this point I think Outbreak is the only chance we have at seeing a proper Saint Michael's Clock Tower, maybe even File 3.

i dont want a RE4 remake. its already perfect.
Not wanting to see "Ballistics" in the REengine? Capcom went through the trouble of giving Jill jiggle physics in the RE3make, it's only natural to prepare.

Resident Evil 5 & 6 went with the "action" over the "horror", which resulted in a disjointed experience. Those shouldn't been Resident Evil games.

If they were new IPs, they likely would've died to the bargain bin.
I disagree with 6 dying in a bargin bin if it was rebranded.

I think the major problem with 6 is that it is a RE brand in the first place, as you have some expection for what a RE game is going to be like, unlike say if it was some diffrent new branding. Hell You don't even need to change the monsters or give them diffrent names because of how weirdly they deviate from standard RE zombies, and mutants.

If they Rebanded the whole thing as a new game, I personally think it wouldn't be as mixed reception, and might be seen as a good first entry to a new series that a sequal could improve a lot on.

Resident Evil hasn't been horror since the first one. The second one was much more action oriented, same with three, four leaned so heavily on action it became Devil May Cry, the real four was sniper city. Five, six - more rootin' tootin' action games. With the exception of 6 they're still very good, so I'm not complaining.

The only exception since 1996 is the first 1/4th of 7, even then most of the game that followed had more of the horror suspense than the games that came before it.

I call in a lot on Michael Does Life's live streams, to discuss the franchise. I'm the guy talking at the 6 minutes mark.

We give both the 'real' and 'fake' fans a chance to call in, but the fake fans seldom ever use Skype to contact Michael.

If the setting is Europe again I hope they have some Haunting Ground style surreally creepy environments, I also think they should borrow some of the ideas from the original versions of RE4.

I've heard rumors that supposedly they're incorporating elements from that build of RE4, such as the hallucinations and I think the hookman (don't know about the latter). I think it'd be cool. That version of RE4 had some serious potential that it's a shame they ultimately never used those ideas (don't get me wrong, I love RE4, but man that original version would have made for something awesome in its own right).

I've also always liked the look of the airship environment from one of the early versions of RE4, hopefully they'll use that again.

I like the RE4 we got but I've always found the original versions more interesting.
