but that'd make for a kind of dumb RE game.
I don't disagree. However, this is one of those conversations which will go around in circles. Any argument you make against it, someone else will reach back in time to find a precedent for it. And any long-running series is bound to have stupid shit to seize upon.

Claire's face is even more tired!
Honestly, the demo is barely playable at this point, too many bugs and crappy controls, better wait for the updates.
Apparently, the game is about 1/3 done and they're promising a bunch of different modes (classic fixed camera, Darkside Chronicles version, Battle game, and Steve's own campaign). I'm not getting my hopes up because these fan projects always end up in a dumpster, but if they release at least some of it in a playable state, I'll be good.

Got any other cool fanmade mod games? Its kinda hard to search for any on youtube because of constant Remake and 7-8 skin replacement mods.

Otherwise all I can think of are the custom maps for L4D and old half life 2 source mods.

I do recommend RE 1.5, it's the closest thing we can get to a true classic RE now. The recent update almost plays like a complete game.
This channel posts various mods for ps1 games but only some of them are public 'cause he's an asshole.
As for the modern stuff, I can only name Them and Us and Daymare 1998, both games were spawned from fans attempt at remaking RE2 before Capcom shut them down. The former actually did remake the whole thing using the Chronicles assets, sadly he never published it.

You know thinking back on the RE movies, I kinda want to do a retrospective on all the elements that worked and didn't work. It held up surprisingly well till the end.

Id still recommend watching the first 3. Then probably drop it there, or watch afterlife and stop right before the umbrella choppers show up. Retribution was pretty dam fun, but its setting up a movie that never comes. Although if they wanted to do a REmake of last chapter or another one of these films? Id see it in a heartbeat.

Im excited to see how the new welcome to raccoon city movie turns out, although its worrisome that we haven't seen anything trailerwise yet. The IMDB ratings of the directors movies dont inspire confidence, but Brad Jones liked his Strangers movie so ill give him a fair shake.

I've honestly thought about getting into emulation and trying out a few of those mods of classic Resident Evil games.

Finished CV, this turned out to be more difficult than I would have liked as I had to redo a final chunk of the game due to leaving all the best weapons with Claire, forgetting you end the game as Chris and making the final boss basically impossible, thank goodness for my earlier save.

It's got some strong moments but Code Veronica is definitely not great, too much time spent in generic industrial type of environments and the part where you go back through the training area as Chris just feels like pure filler to artificially extend the length, the game is often tedious in a way the other games aren't.

However Alfred and Alexia are some of the most interesting villains the series has had, their whole story is wonderfully creepy and perfectly Resident Evil, especially their private residence, it's just a shame that amounts to essentially like the clock tower in 3, just a quick little homage to the first game while the rest of the environments are something different, it should have been focused more on that and less concrete hallways.

All in all it's a deep cut, but definitely still worth playing.

I forgot to mention that Chris throws out a few "sorerys" nears the end of the game, so you can't just use the excuse that Steve is actually Canadian, it's obvious they just used Canadian voice actors lol.

RE8’s plot was so bad and insulting that it actually made me respect RE6. Deadass.
Galaxy brain take.

Throw it on the pile along with: "I want to explore George Lucas' micobiotic world" and "I can easily see Eddie Furlong as adult John Connor"

I started up Resident Evil Zero.

This is an interesting one, my initial impression is that I want to say it's the most underrated game in the series as I've always felt, but playing them all back to back as I've been doing makes Zero stand out a bit.

Something does feel off a bit, especially when compared to REmake, basically almost all the zombies I've encountered you have to just immediately shoot them to death, you can't really try to run past them with the AI partner in tow, it definitely feel a lot easier than REmake which is probably why back in 2002 I beat Zero but did not manage to beat REmake until later.

There a few things that are kind of weird story wise too, it's a prequel but you definitely couldn't play it first, as it'd spoil the Wesker twist in the first game, it's also kind of weird how immediately you're reading files about Umbrella and the T Virus, it assumes an innate familiarity with the story and characters you'd need to already have for things to make sense, which is a bit odd for a game literally titled "Zero" and also feels odd given that Rebecca as a character wouldn't know anything about this, but she seems weirdly unsurprised to learn Umbrella is making zombies, also why does she not mention that when she first meets Chris?

So it's not perfect, but damn does it look amazing, even to this day, for the finale of classic Resident Evil games, they certainly ended it with a bang, it's crazy that this was only 6 years after the original game, there's definitely not been as big a leap in games from 2015 to today.

My personal explanation is she knew about the traitor in the team from Enrico and Chris didn't give her enough reason to trust him, especially if he had failed to save Edward.

That plus the semi-canonical explanation of Rebecca being totally and utterly exhausted both mentally and physically by the time Chris meets up with her in RE1. There's a good chance that Rebecca had a lot more on her mind than letting Chris know about Wesker's true intentions by that point.

It does look good.

I think Capcom overestimated how much people wanted to fight leeches. It's also the point where the villains jumped the shark, as it were.
