It works great, actually. Online reviewers recommend to install a custom firmware that increments the experience and performance, but all my available SD cards are "protected" which doesn't let me format them...

It does run arcade and consoles up to the fifth generation (with some issues), and even Doom and Quake, but I intend to use it purely for handheld emulation. I've already got my RPi 3 for console emulation, and a PS4 controller for it as well.

Crossposting from the thread regarding this because it's just as relevant here.

This annoys me for a specific reason, and that reason is the PlayStation Classics library is just gonna be gone.

I like to collect retro video games, but I don't like the idea of spending absurd amounts of money for one video game. Take Klonoa for example, that game costs anywhere from $200 to $400. That is fucking insane. Meanwhile you can just buy it for $5.99 on the PSN and not have to worry about dropping a mortgage just to play a video game (a video game that's roughly 5 hours no less). It's nice and cheap. Unfortunately, the Classics library was absent from the PS4, and the only games that did appear were ports, like the Final Fantasy games and PaRappa the Rapper. There's a not-insignificant number of games on the PS3's store that are extremely rare otherwise, and those prices are gonna skyrocket now that one of the only places to get them for cheap is going to vanish real soon.

There are the rumors of the PS5 offering some sort of backwards compatibility, but I'm not holding my breath on that, plus I'm not even sure I can justify getting a PS5 for a good long while. The other solution is to emulate those games, and quite frankly I'm starting to see the appeal given that the legit services that archive those games are just gonna be shut down.

Can any of you guys recommend a PS2 hard drive attachment? There's a billion of them on amazon and would prefer to buy from a trusted brand.

The thing for a fat PS2 that lets you install a hdd? They are all going to be chinese knock off. You wont get a 'trusted brand' for something made to facilitate piracy. Just go for the one with good reviews. Got one a while back from a no name chinese brand (Diyeeni) on amazon and its pretty good. Think they must have the original molds or something because its indistinguishable from the legit internet adapter.

Excuse the shilling but though might be relevant to people here. I bought a couple of 8bitdo pads recently after my 360 controller finally died and am really impressed. Would highly recommend if you are after a wireless controller.

I got one of these a while back (SN30Pro+)

Really nice controller, the best 3rd party pad I've ever owned and one of the best pads I've used period. The only real complain I have is the D-pad feels a little spongy which I don't like but its still miles better than the 360 one.

Got a SN30Pro more recently. Much smaller form factor but I like the layout a bit more for retro games and the D-pad is more solid than the Pro+ which I prefer.

Also the best controllers for the switch, not missing any features compared to the switch pro controller. better dpad/buttons and can get it for around half the price.

I'm thinking of replacing my N64 joystick. It hurts my thumb whenever I use it because I have to jam really far just to get the character to run at full speed (I think it's just worn out because it's really loose in the center). Does anyone know where I can pick up a decent replacement? I tried looking myself but the replacement sticks I managed to find got mixed reviews by users.

Ubreakifix. Not sure they do online ordering but if you're stateside they're great for repairs / replacement

This costs almost $600 if you count shipping tax, and I’d honestly get this right now if I save enough money. And no, I’m not drunk while typing this.
It literally can play (almost) any game from the PS2. I‘d love to play the first two Yakuza games on here.

Don't have any experience with them but I did notice one in my area. No idea how useful they'll be though since they don't seem to fix devices older than the PS3 and Xbox 360. I checked for an online store that's separate from my area and they do have an "Other systems" option but I'm a little skeptical if only because I don't really know what to expect out of their services.

I used this when I replaced my stick

They also have a gamecube variant, in case you want that more, but just know that because the gate on the GCN-style joystick is perfectly octagonal (which is wasn't on the N64), you may or may not have some issues with control stick sensitivity.

Decided to set up Retroarch on my linux laptop and having a weird issue. Launching games on any core take forever. I hit launch game and it takes 30s to a minute to start. At first I though it was crashing on launch. Its not a hardware issue because the standalone emulators run fine and launch the games instantly. I assume its some setting in Retroarch causing this but I haven't been able to figure it out.

Anyone have similar issues and know how to fix it?

E: after trawling github I found the solution. It was an issue with the settings and having a bluetooth controller connected. Disabling the battery indicator through the settings menu fixed the issue. God this thing literally is held together with papeclips and bubblegum.

I keep seeing those but I also see users say that those aren't that good with shooters like GoldenEye and Perfect Dark, which is kinda important to me because I really like those games.

I've been trying to find a portable emu system that can run up to PS1 perfectly and won't break the bank. I've been using a Vita but I bought it in poor condition. Right now my only solution seems to be a psp bit it doesn't handle other systems too well.

What's your budget? I've got a GPD XD plus, which is surprisingly good for the price. Runs PS1 without a hitch, solid build quality and controls for a Chinese company, and isn't too much more expensive than some of the PSP Vitas I've seen on eBay. With a custom firmware and CleanRom it can run some Gamecube and Dreamcast games, and can run most DS and PSP games without a problem.

Only up to PS1? A raspberry pi 4 with 4 gb will do the trick, If you want up to Dreamcast then an nvidia jetson nano may be able to do it.

Of course, both of this require some DIY if you want to take them on the road.

So for context, I'm a man who knows nothing about hair care beyond shampoo, combing, and shaving.

I recently got an SNES that's a bit yellow (1CHIP), and I want to unyellow it. I heard that Salon Care 40 Volume Creme Developer works well, since it has hydrogen peroxide, but how well does this brand work? I ask because its already in my sisters' closet and they suggested using that instead.
