Roosh makes me wonder if more alt-lite types will peel the mask off and reveal themselves to be the same sort of fundie retards that people made fun of right through the Bush years.
It's already happening. Conservatives have realised their message resonates to a certain degree thanks to SJW insanity and are now overreaching themselves and trying to sneak in things that made people hate them so much in the first place. Stuff like Intelligent Design is having a minor resurgence thanks to people like Ben Shapiro (facts and logic amirite?) and Dennis Prager pushing it.

It'll work for the time being, but sooner or later it's going to backfire spectacularly.

Ben Shapiro is a fundie Jew, that's always been his schtick. He somehow got a reputation in conservative circles for being a squishy moderate when in reality he's quite far to the right.

I saw the Prager video on evolution, it was actually kinda thought provoking when they brought up the number of possible protein sequences vs evolutionary time. It doesn't lead directly to the conclusion of intelligent design no matter what they say, but it's obvious that there is a big hole in evolutionary theory, there's something we don't know yet.

There's lots of things humanity doesn't know yet. The difference between science and religion is, science is willing to admit "I don't have the answer to this question yet," whereas religion insists "We DO have all the answers, and the answer is, god did it."

Fun history trivia fact: before scientists discovered the principles of radioactivity and nuclear power, the sun was considered proof of divinity by religious people: we knew the size and mass of the sun, and also knew that (even assuming the earth and universe was only thousands of years old, rather than billions), the sun "should have" burned out several millennia ago, even if it were made of the slowest-burning fuel then known to man. Only after the nuclear revolution and other scientific advances did people realize "Oh, I get it, the sun doesn't actually 'burn' at all (at least not "burning" in the "rapid oxidation" sense known on the surface of the Earth)--the force powering the sun is something completely different from the forces that make fire consume wood, coal or other combustible items here on Earth."

it must be a 'tism thing, this inability to see in anything other than black and white. most normal people are neither rapey "PUAs" who (claim to) have 100s of partners, OR fundies who throw a tardrage every time they see a woman's ankles. they're somewhere in between

I used to read Roosh5's articles few years ago. I admit I liked them, guy has interesting things to say and is capable of writing good stories even if you don't agree with him. I stopped reading because every article was pretty much the same thing - womenwomenwomenwhoresgaybadblahblah etc.

Dude has a background in biology and did laboratory work, I'd like to hear a story of his time working in the field but as I said, he's a one-trick pony. His Old Testament commentaries were interesting but reading about whores and whoring in the Bible got stale quick.

Problem is, if you associate yourself with thots, vapid bitches and gaijin hunters, then you'll think every woman is like that.

Fun fact: Roosh5 turned hardore Old Testament-Orthodox after tripping on shrooms. No joke.

I just found out the failed CEO of Parler was a huge Roosh fan and as a result refuses to remember his girlfriend's names as a result :story:

EXCLUSIVE: 'He's become the Darth Vader of social media.' Fired CEO of Parler wanted to be next Bill Gates, wasn't a 'team player' and admired alt-right blogger who said men should travel to Eastern Europe to find subservient girlfriends, former boss reveals

Tu, who met Matze in 2013, claims Matze had discussed the work of Roosh V, a controversial blogger linked to the alt-right who has been criticized for his misogynistic writings including advising American men to travel to Eastern Europe to find subservient girlfriends.
Tu claimed Matze was fascinated by the work of Roosh V, a blogger and former pickup artist connected with the alt right who has been slammed for his misogynistic writings.

He had went on the record advocating for women to be banned from voting, describing a woman's value as dependent on her 'fertility and beauty', and stating that women with eating disorders make the best girlfriends.

Roosh V has been accused of anti-Semitism and promoting rape in his blog posts and books - his first book was published in 2007 and titled Bang: The Pickup Bible That Helps You Get More Lays.

DailyMail.com photographed the blogger back in 2016, revealing he was living in his mother's basement.

Tu said: 'On the plane when we met, John mentioned Roosh V, this blogger who gained notoriety on the internet for encouraging men to travel to eastern European countries to get into relationships with the women there.

'The idea was that men could be the old-fashioned patriarch in their relationships. John was fascinated by it.

'And I always wondered whether that was one of the things that drew John to Russia.

'He was obsessed with Russia and he traveled there extensively. John's type was always Russian women.

'I did meet a girlfriend in late 2015 who was Russian. I don't know if it was Alina, his current wife.

'I can't remember what the woman said her name was, it was a long time ago.'

Roosh has officially switched churches.
I received the sacraments on Sunday from one Church and then for the remaining six days of the week I poured over the works of another Church. It was like courting two women at the same time. Of course you will develop a favorite, and my favorite was Orthodoxy.

He has some surprisingly mature reasons for switching, and some weird ones (though considering his heritage they make some sense). Confession feeling abstract and not requiring reflection is a big deal for people coming from a traditional (Catholic, Orthodox, etc.) position where priests still take confession.

The icon veneration thing, on the other hand, is the reason why a lot of Prots think Orthodox and Catholics are idolaters. They're really not doing themselves any favors in the eyes of Baptists and hardcore Lutherans when they're talking about "adding power to prayers" and stuff.

There's nothing strange about the conversion as he describes it and I can only imagine it as a very deep, reassuring experience of being led where you feel you belong. Also, the long exchange with Father Spyridon he links in the blog post is quite touching. I enjoyed it.

Some of the factual arguments he gives though are a bit annoying and it's hard not to see this move as just another episode of his theatrical purity spiraling. He's a flawed man pointing out weaknesses in a church that took him back with his history and reputation. He's a church shopping American complaining about a lack of authenticity of Armenian monasteries. He's a sinner publicly scolding his former parish for dirty secrets and fakery. Perhaps the church needs some forgiving and rebuilding just like Roosh does.

I understand the need for a strong guidance. Once again though, having a praying corner and desiring "active miracle-working icons" feels a bit like a way to demonstrate a faith, rather than deepen it. Roosh is an intelligent enough man to grasp a more abstract, intimate approach to faith but he chooses the more bombastic aesthetics at every turn. I can tell he lives a minimalist life, yet he seeks all this physical stuff for his prayer. It's like some sort of a medieval LARP.
And I'm only commenting on it because he's making it all very public. I wouldn't have otherwise.
