I don't know why anybody thinks YBZ received any money as part of the settlement. There's no indication that he did.
@waffle mentioned in the other thread that Zack had been talking about having extra money for his business lately, which may be indicative of something.

IMO, Zack got sick of having to deal with that shit and just cut his losses.
This is what most people in a lolsuit do. Do you really want to spend years of your life tortured with bullshit? Because that is what a lolsuit is. It is years of misery with no good result. Even the best result is you get a money judgment against some jerkoff you can't collect against. Sure I'm disappointed Meyer didn't take it to the end. Can I blame him though? Nope.

I fantasized about Waid's testimony so much

Richard Meyer Has Voluntarily Dismissed Lawsuit against Mark Waid
Posted on December 22, 2020 | by Mark Seifert | Comments
Bleeding Cool has closely followed the lawsuit filed by Richard Meyer against Mark Waid since its original court filing on September 19, 2018. Carefully watched by industry observers in the interim, the case has generated much commentary from the comics community at large in the over two years since it was filed. But it appears that the legal conflict is now over. Bleeding Cool is in receipt of the following joint statement made by Meyer and Waid, via Mark Zaid, attorney for Mark Waid, regarding the matter.

Richard Meyer Has Voluntarily Dismissed Lawsuit against Mark Waid
Richard Meyer v mark Waid, original lawsuit.
JOINT STATEMENT FROM RICHARD MEYER AND MARK WAID

On September 19, 2018, plaintiff Richard Meyer filed a lawsuit in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Texas against defendant Mark Waid that asserted claims of tortious interference with contract and defamation arising out of the intended publication of a comic book by Antarctic Press entitled "Jawbreakers." Following jurisdictional discovery and motions practice, a First Amended Complaint was filed on July 24, 2019.

Since the filing of the lawsuit, "Jawbreakers" has been successfully published and COVID-19 has significantly impacted the world around us. Upon consideration of all the circumstances, the parties have jointly decided that it is in the best interests of all concerned, and the comic book community at large, for this litigation to end and Mr. Meyer has decided to voluntarily dismiss the lawsuit. Neither party has admitted any liability or responsibility, can claim to have achieved any victory and both have agreed to assume their own fees and costs.

With the dismissal of the lawsuit, the parties have executed a confidential agreement and have no interest in continuing this dispute in the public arena or anywhere else.

On twitter, Zaid noted that, "The #comicbook defamation case against my client @MarkWaid that is related to #ComicsGate has been dismissed with prejudice." Zaid is a comic book collector and fan who is also an attorney well known for handling cases regarding national security, security clearances, government investigations, Freedom of Information Act filings and government whistleblowing.

Wait, by what logic does this settlement mean Meyer could get in trouble somehow if Nick discusses this case? Is this just Igle talking out of his ass and others accepting it uncritically?

I mean, I'm pretty sure of the answer, but I guess it doesn't hurt to be certain.
At this point just assume the opposite of what Twitter says is true.
Aren't these the same fuckers who go "the industry is fine" despite the fact the structure being on fire and the roof has collapsed into the basement and the neighboring building is also catching on fire?
More in the "absolutely nothing happens" territory. Who's gonna sue for breaching the agreement, Zack? He's shown he does not want to sue.

I don't know why anybody thinks YBZ received any money as part of the settlement. There's no indication that he did. Waid is broke, petty and vindictive, and he'd rather go bankrupt than do the reasonable thing. After two years of fighting for jurisdiction and Wuhan-19 providing at least a free bonus year worth of delays, you think he's just gonna do a 180 and act like an adult?

IMO, Zack got sick of having to deal with that shit and just cut his losses. A judgment against Waid would have been nice but again, Waid is broke and the comic industry is dead so there's not much in it for him. The lawsuit's costs were largely covered by the GFM and he makes enough money off his indie comics to buy a lifetime's worth of breakfast burritos, so he's probably okay with his life right now.
Is... Is their even a comic book industry to get into at this point? Like if Meyer wanted to work at DC or Marvel two years ago, he would have had to prove Waid was talking out of his ass. But now... DC and Marvel are getting sliced up while Meyer is building his own business.

I'm agreeing with you that Zack is tired of the shit but it isn't like a lawsuit was going to bring back Marvel or DC for Meyer to work at. The people that would listen to Waid have been fired or are being pushed out the doors of the comic book industry.

Yeah, humiliating Waid would be satisfying to ComicsGate, but Waid is his own worst enemy. He will hurt himself far more than anything Meyer could do.

All threads i'm seeing from the usual shitheads are cheering that Mark Waid "won" apparently didn't understand the statement.

Is Waid even working anymore? No cons for him to chase cosplayers at during covid.
He's currently worming his way back into DC Comics now that Harras and Didio are gone.

It's been speculated that DC might have given Waid an ultimatum before giving him any major high profile work as part of letting him back into the henhouse: settle with Richard and make the case go away, or else.

Also, I would not be shocked if Zaid explicitly made Waid pay extra (if there was a cash settlement) so that Richard would forced into being made to make a weak in the knees statement that he was dropping the case with very little details, so Zaid and Waid and their supporters can paint the whole affair as "Waid winning". Because a crooked lawyer like Zaid knows that you often have to pay double or triple what a court would make you pay if you lost the trial, so you can control the narrative via the ensuing press releases/exit interviews (especially if Waid was forced to sign an NDA too) and silence the person you wronged/harmed via NDA.
